      TOC15 Baxter v Shmod R3-5US.tsvg

Thanks Shmod! Axis bid 9 and placed 2 inf for Ger (Ukr/Lib) and 1 inf for Jap (Fr Inc). Axis definitely had the dice all game, but 2 telling battles were UK1 where the Jap trans killed the UK destroyer, and Ger2 where Germany threw everything at WRus and got really good dice. The battles in R1 wrecked Shmod's KJF plans, and the battle in WRus meant that Russia was on a very shortened life span. Game ended on R3 US. I wish you much better dice next game Shmod!

      R19 Germany.tsvg

Baxter (Axis) defeats Hammond (Allies) in R19 with an Axis bid of 10 (2 Ger inf, 1 Jap art). The game turned on a battle in R11 where Japan moved its shipping into the Med on a part suicide mission in order help give the German's some breathing room. The sea battle started unfavourably for the Allies, but got worse as it went on, with the final Jap hit on a 1 killing an extra US BB. From there it was difficult for the US to recover. I'd like to thank Hammond for the game, especially as we played out an alternate direction to the game from one point and it was an cool demonstration of the speed in which Japan can embed itself on the US west coast if conditions are favourable! It was a great learning point 🙂

      TOC 15 Baxter v eboy R8 UK END.tsvg

Baxter (Allies) defeats Eboy82 (Axis +8 African bid). For a relatively short match it sure felt like it had a lot of hard decisions and a few heart-stopping battles! The biggest decision point of the game was Axis moving into WR to threaten both Caucasus and Russia in R5. I got a couple of lucky results when he moved, followed by a good battle result for the Russians, which left the Germans under-manned and the Japs not quite in a position to take advantage of a depleted Russian force. Great game and thanks Eboy as it could have quite easily gone the other way with a few different results in battles!

Baxter (Allies) wins over TangoRomeo (Axis +7) after surrender in R5. By the end of R1 Germany had stacked Karelia, and Japan had made a fast start with a factory and 2 additional trans. The UK did what they could to bleed some units from the German forces, waiting for the US to get into the game. Russia was able to just hold it's stack in W Rus until R4 when the UK hit a small stack in EEur and the US hit W Eur and S EUR. Despite neither battle going to plan, it was just was enough to force Germany to retreat from Karelia, and TangoRomeo called surrender with the Japs not quite fast enough. It was hard work for the Allies and I thank TR for the game! Baxter v TR R5-UK.tsvg

Baxter (Axis +8 with African placement) defeats Brennan (Allies) in R14. Brennan was kind enough to write a good summary of our game: "A big German/Russian battle in West Russia (Russia’s stacking territory), together with losing Caucasus, was crippling to Russia, which forced Brits to lend reinforcements directly to Archangel/Moscow, which went on for a while, and allies were unable to recover Caucasus. U.S.A. tried to come in through the Mediterranean and chase axis out of there in order to eventually help alleviate the situation surrounding Caucasus, but the Japanese navy curtailed their efforts and U.S. had to withdraw. The Americans spent most of their time battling the Japanese in Africa. The Japanese and Germans putting the squeeze on Russia, the combined British and Russia production just wasn’t enough to save Moscow in the end. Also, the Japanese dominated the Pacific." Thanks to Brennan for a fun game. It was my first in many many years and a great way to get back into the swing of things. GL Brennan for the rest of the tournament!
