Modern Warfare
As Russia masses troops at the border with the Ukraine, the West slowly begins mobilization preparations. Russia, believing the only way to successfully contain NATO is to launch a surprise strike on the entire eastern flank of the NATO alliance, launches a full-scale invasion of Europe. As NATO troops scramble to defend its members, there are worries that the war might escalate to a true global warThis is a map depicting a less represented period of time in TripleA maps: a possible 3rd World War in today's world. The rules are mostly Axis and Allies Global 2nd Edition, with some important differences:
*Rockets (fired by non-moving Cruisers, Submarines and Missile Launchers) have a range of 2 and a damage threshold of 1-6
*Battles last 1 turn. If at the end of a battle both sides still have units in the territory, the territory becomes contested and its PU production is frozen. It can still mobilize units for the owner of the factory
*Before a battle, a new step has been introduced: the Air Supremacy Step. All planes (not helicopters) fight 1 round air battle. These units then participate normally in battle afterwards
*Air Units may scramble from air bases in any region around its base
*Factories may take 2x territory production as damage and can mobilize as many units as the production value of the territory allows
*Factories, Airbases, Harbours, Missile Launchers and Fortifications may be bombed. Except Factories, all instalations, upon reaching max operational damage, cease to function. Factories work like in AAA 42: each point of damage reduces its production capacity by 1, up to a max of 2x territory value damage
*Every Capital produces 1 Diplomacy Point per turn, which may be used to influence other countries or augument your forces during the Operations Step of the turn, just before the Purchase Step.
*Certain Regions of the world had to be redrawn to accomodate the new nations which rose or fell during the last century: Yugoslavia was broken into Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia, Korea was broken into North and South Korea, and West India into West India and Pakistan. Many regions were renamed. Almost all regions' incomes were remade, based both on gameplay parity and research
*Complete new techs, which could prove useful in breaking the attrition warfare which would grip the world
*AI Support via Game Options, which compensates the AI inability to use user actions by giving them a random chance every turn to trigger the actions available to them
New Units:
-Reserves - cheap and plentiful, may be recruited in any home country region but are very weak
-Special Forces (SF) - infantry with first strike attack
-Self-Propelled Versions of AA and Artillery
-Helicopters - provide support to Infantry and have the advantage of not being forced to fight an air battle before combat
-Cargo Planes - in order to show the advantage NATO forces have in mobility, Cargo Planes are introduced. They may airlift 2 Infantry or 1 of anything else
-Stealth Fighter/Bomber - Air Units which ignore AA Fire, making them ideal for deep strikes
-Missile - represent SCUDs: tactical missile launchers which can be used to harass enemy structuresTechs:
-Stealth Aircraft Production Category, which contains techs to make Stealth Air Units buildable
-Home Front Category, which contains techs to improve production
-Army Doctrine Category, which contains techs to improve unit synergies
-Navy Doctrine Category, which contains techs to improve all naval units
-High Tech Category, which contains techs to improve Tanks, Mechanized and Artillery unitsThe map itself is done, but there are still some technical issues regarding uploading it, although they should soon be resolved; I will post when it's on. I playtested it with bots as both sides, and I am quite satisfied with the balance reached, but, of course, any feedback is appreciated.
Last but not least, note that I made this map as a summer project, and I do not claim it is perfect (actually this is my first TripleA map), but it was fun making it. I hope you'll enjoy it -
The map is on, special thanks to@RogerCooper who made this possible. Feedback appreciated
