@redrum thanks! I think 1 or 2 can be helpful....
Better backed user number could be helpful... do you track the downloads or installations or running online games or active players?

@helsinkiharbour SourceForge used to track downloads for us: https://sourceforge.net/projects/triplea/files/stats/timeline?dates=2002-01-17+to+2017-01-01

I don't know if we have a download count on the new website or github.

I'd say there are a few hundred active multiplayer lobby players and probably a few hundred active PBF/PBEM players. To verify you can join the lobby and there is usually somewhere between 30-100 people in it. PBF/PBEM is mostly on A&A: http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?board=40.0. IMO, we probably have more people that play just singleplayer than both those combine so I'd say at a minimum we have 1000+ users that have played some form of TripleA in the past few months.

@prastle just to throw in my 2 cents I know for sure that the harder a game is the smaller the games popularity is so don't compare this community with Runescape or World of Warcraft lol because a game like this one is more a niche/elite skilled type game for the smarter "lateral thinking" type of gamer amiright!

Even with first person view shooter games like Quake and Counterstrike you'd be lucky to hit several thousand regular players because again those games require more advanced gaming skills but my point is this game could only get so popular because its a more challenging type of game and I've discovered the communities for these challenging type of games are much smaller than most other games unfortunately but don't let that hold you back from trying to get this game super popular!

            Elite game is elite!

@redrum Regarding the download counts: the maps have 7 million downloads, the client 1.2 million via sourceforge. What is the interpretation?

And, while the sources seems now to be sufficient for the survival of the article, it would be nice if someone more knowledgeable with history and development of TripleA would expand the article in that respect, the article is underdeveloped currently.

@helsinkiharbour Its hard to say on the download counts given the number of bots out there these days. I find it a little hard to believe we have more than 1 million downloads by actual users but I guess its possible. I think the main point is that a decent percentage of the downloads should be real users so I have to imagine we have definitely over 100,000 downloads.

I agree that it would be nice to revamp the wikipedia article as a whole to add more information and make sure its up to date.

@redrum Let's assume the numbers are real (an I think they are real as other games on sourceforge of similar age and scope have signifiant smaller number), is the intpretation given on Wikipedia about the client and map downloads right?

the client was distributed not only from Sourceforge but also via various freeware downlaod sites and also linux distros.... but irregard where the client was from the map download numbers can be interpreted as number of full game installations -> 7million.

@helsinkiharbour well that number can be divided by about 7? or maybe more i would have to count the number of stable releases from old days but ya u get idea. Main pt is alot of people downloaded this alot.

@helsinkiharbour Well there are a couple hundred different maps. Most users probably never downloaded more than a few especially from SourceForge since back then the ~10 most popular maps were bundled with the TripleA client download. Map do get updated from time to time so some users would have repeat downloads of the same map just a newer version.

Most map downloads are from the TripleA game client itself as it used to reach out to SourceForge to download the maps for the user (now it does so from github). Its hard to say exactly what the 7 million map download number means in regards to number of full game installs and players.

@redrum @prastle good news, the article was considered worth for not being deleted. Let's hope the article will show itself that worthy with being expanded.

@prastle @Zim Xero well, it is possible. get a wikipedia account, learn the rules and policies and get involved (also the deletion discussions). but, plainly voicing your opinion and "vote" is not enough, it needs to be backed by policies.

In this case, good enough secondary reliable sources for notability were found. In general this means the article won't be deleted at all in the future. Another deletion request will be signficantly harder to bring forward or to a success.
