WW2 Pacific 1940 2nd Ed - Triggers for AI to Unprovoked Declare War?
-
Regarding WW2 Pacific 1940 2nd Ed, can anyone tell me what the coded triggers are for any of the Allies to declare an Unprovoked Declaration of War on Japan?
Doing some experimenting, I've determined the British and ANZAC will complete an Unprovoked Declaration of War on Japan if Japan attacks Yunnan territory in the first two rounds (and probably the same for Szechwan), I assume because these two territories must be in Allied control for China to build Artillery. Japan can attack any other Chinese territory.
However, in round 3 the British and ANZAC completed an Unprovoked Declaration of War on Japan (without Yunnan or Scechwan being attacked).
So I'm wondering what the trigger was? Does the AI automatically attack round 3? Or is there another Chinese territory trigger? Or is there a random 'dice roll' every round to determine when the AI attacks?
Besides the British and ANZAC, what are the triggers for the US to complete an Unprovoked Declaration of War on Japan?
Thanks!

@sculpt There are a bunch of factors the AI considers on if/when it should declare war so its not a hard trigger on specific territories or rounds. The primary factors are:
- Round (later increases chance)
- Number of adjacent enemy territories to attack (more increases chance)
The AI finds a base chance to declare war across all of the options then rolls a dice to determine if it should to add randomness.

This is really fascinating, determining what factors will produce unprovoked attack must have been fun to figure.
Regarding "Number of adjacent enemy territories to attack (more increases chance)", (with Allies as AI Hard) would the number of territories that can be won (battle calculation 50%+) increase the chance of unprovoked declaration of war (UPDW), or only the number of adjacent enemy territories to attack?
As British, ANZAC and US all UPDW the same round, I would assume the number of Japanese territories must have been a heavy factor... because I (Japan) took Chinese territories along a North/South front, going East to West, and so the number of 'adjacent enemy territories to attack' remained about the same round 1 to 3.
I wonder as well -- Japanese territories in Pacific and China east cost trended to lower and none (defending) units. Would undefended (or low unit count) increase AI Allies decision to attack?

@sculpt I don't recall if its number of adjacent enemy territories or number of adjacent enemy territories that can be successfully attacked or both contribute.
I actually developed the TripleA AI so that is how I figured it out

Well, it's great, I'm having a ton of fun experimenting with the AI! Also, I never played 1940 Pacific, the Declarations is an interesting twist, so this is a blast.

@sculpt Glad to hear that. AI feedback is always welcome and main AI thread is here: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/105/ai-development-discussion-and-feedback
Once you are comfortable with that map and beat the AI easily, I'd encourage you to either play some online games or try out Play-By-Forum.

Well, let me ask it this way: regarding Pacific, in your expert opinion, what would be the best tactics for Japan to forestall the British/ANZAC, and especially the US, from declaring Unprovoked War on Japan?
Right now, they're declaring rd 2 or 3 at best.
Naturally, I'm trying to take all China & not provoke Allied attack as long as possible. As I mentioned, the number of adjacent enemy territories has remained fairly constant, only the number of Japanese territories have increased, & it's Production.
I kept Jap ships away from Allied territory and ships, assuming that would increase Unprovoked Attack. Not sure if leaving Jap islands and coast undefended increases chance of attack?
What if I was more threatening to British or ANZAC? Would that make Unprovoked Attack less likely? Thanks!
