Trying to put age of tribes engine on alexander 350 world map
-
@ted-self Leave the capitals in. Without capitals the AI is fairly passive. I have put capitals in scenarios just to make the AI more aggressive and direct its attention to particular spots.
-
@rogercooper Well, the Capitals are there, but just like Age of Tribes they don't mean much. I will probably end up making 3 different versions. One with capitals, one without, and one that goes crazy at the end and has mutants and other post Apocalypse things.
-
@ted-self WAAAHOOO I made it to turn 37 so far!
-
@ted-self I can see it now, another age after the futuristic age called the Apocalyptic age. Nuclear radiation brings about a new plague, technology goes downhill. Electric grids are all but wiped out. Religious fanaticism abounds, gang lords replace presidents.
-
@ted-self Screen captures from round 55...
-
@ted-self Well, I realize I made a big goof when I tried to add Femdom because I forgot to make the Develop-Femdom.png. I doubt she will show up unless I start playtesting again from scratch on round 1
... LOL -
@ted-self I want to playtest to the very end to make sure there are no crashes. Sometimes it takes intervention from the gods (edit game) to keep enough tribes going to make it to the end. I am compiling a list of changes to be made including make Mongolia, Egypt and Honduras etc worth 3 PUs, change the name of East China to Hong Kong etc, change name of Honduras etc to Mayan Empire, fix femdom, ( how does xml find this file?) remove duplicate files in the zip, fix catapults, fix cavemen, try to dig canals in the appropriate age, and a couple more.
-
@ted-self OK, I still didn't make all those changes I was talking about. I did try to fix the Femdom but I wont know if she works until I get past the war robot again. I also fixed a territory that refused to be nuked. I play tested until turn 77 when I surrendered to the Inca. They had all of the Americas and big chunks of Africa and Asia. They just had too much money. The game is entirely playable in its present form. New upload is at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gh1sFPvnmK8EY6KOvaQugFQ4uZik7F_e/view?usp=sharing

@ted-self OK going nuts now, how in the world do I get the develop Femdom to show up here?
-
@ted-self After all this time I can't get her (Femdom) to appear. I've went through the xml and compared her to other units, looked in the tooltips properties, looked through the create a map tutorial, can't figure it out. I created the develop Femdom png and the Femdom pngs and put them in the appropriate folders. Perhaps some folks don't like her name, (I could call her a general) but I figure after a nuclear war things could get nutty and it is not too far fetched to see female generals on the battlefield, the ultimate fighting unit capable of serving like artillery and as a factory. That's why all the other changes don't get made, because she is the top priority when it comes to getting the game the way I really want it. It sucks to think maybe I've got everything right and she will appear this time then play test to turn 65 or so and see she does not appear. She is supposed to replace the War-Robot.
-
@ted-self Femdom is in poor taste because you are depicting the women semi-nude. Either dress the women properly or depict men the same way. Women are already on the battlefield, dressed as proper soldiers.
-
@rogercooper LOL, a gal in a bikini is in bad taste but a nuclear war is fine!
-
-
@rogercooper I want to put this shield-maiden with Europe in the time of the Vikings, if someone could tell me how to add new units to existing maps I would appreciate it.
-
@ted-self I actually think I found the problem, it's not that I am as dumb as a rock, it's that I don't see too well without my reading glasses. I had her develop femdom png written as femdon. Pure agony. Anyhow I have done plenty of playtesting and found lots of things that just don't work right on this map. The big thing was that those 3 ships that move at 3 had to be changed to 2. Anyhow I did a compromise (temporary fix) before I discovered the misspelling, I just made her unit be called a War-Robot. She is able to create a new unit without a factory and she does serve as artillery. She is a general, she cost more than anything short of the missile silo.
-
@ted-self After almost a month of working on this almost every day I think I am near completion. One problem is that I can't get air transports to work. I even opened the original age of tribes and went to edit mode and put in a war robot and an air transport and I could not make it work their either.
-
@ted-self This somehow makes me feel better about my typos. https://www.businessinsider.com/uk-accidentally-sent-classified-information-mali-russian-allied-country-2023-7 Anyhow I scrapped the air transport in favor of a new General unit. Each tribe has a unique general. I have fixed the catapults, changed the names of lots of territories. changed to PUs of lots of territories and a few other odds and ends. Playtesting again.
-
@ted-self Here it is in what I hope is its final form. I am still playtesting. I am very proud of it, thanks again to everyone who helped.

@ted-self In playtesting I can tell there are some inherent problems that have to do with geography and balance. This is a counterfactual history of the world and every game plays out differently. I have played Europe and dominated from early on and even invaded America, but a more likely scenario is that Inca defeats Aztec or vise-versa, then is able to build vast armies which will eventually dominate the world. This is because China, India, MiddleEast and the Slavs are duking it out and expending their armies. The only answer I can see (I keep trying different solutions) is to ally the weaker tribes in different ways. As I write this I am thinking of starting the next game with the MiddleEast, India and the Slavs (probably the 3 weaker tribes due to geography) allied but the Slavs friendly with China. (You just set this up at the beginning with the edit mode in political relationships.) Inca and Aztec can be put in check if one starts to dominate the other by setting them to cold war relationship. But I am going to continue playtesting for now until I see if the generals appear as they should later in the game. When you start in Caveman times and work your way to the futuristic age with missiles and nuclear bombs (it takes many hours to get there) bad things tend to happen. Because losing capitals does not mean loss of income or ability to build a tribe can migrate to another part of the world and rebuild if need be. I am still making adjustments (seeking more balance) and another version will come out.
Another thing is that if you want to make it all the way to the futuristic age (in order to have the full game experience) you will probably at some point either change who you are playing and/or change the political relationships. This is definitely not your typical triplea game experience where either axis or allies win. This is crazy free for all world history where sometimes the gods must intervene lest chaos should ensue. For those who have never played age of tribes it is already different with barbarian tribes and wild animals early on, the endless tech trees, plagues, convoy centers and eventual nuclear war. But on the world map it is a whole new ballgame. -
@ted-self Also a sense of humor might be helpful at some point.
