EXP G40 Game 3 Trout vs JCat
-
@trout OK cool
I am starting to build a list of more or less essential must do things for each team.
Russia 5 for example must be able to buy those 26 cheap conscripts
Germany should build elite and those super soldiers conversions but maybe avoid much of the special units in the early game
And UK has a bunch of things like India MUST get all 20 IPU every turn.I'll have to learn more about Italy next I think.
-
@johnnycat I just looked at your file and it will still be a wipeout. Okay, here is what I can bring to bear on Berlin this turn.
- 14 infantry
- 1 artillery
- 9 tanks and one Tank General which will roll 14 dice attacking at a 3
- one inactive Commissar which will attack at a 2
- 1 Tac Bomber
- Two dicee rolls at 4 from the Army Group
So average 1st round hits that you will take are: 73/6 = 12.16 hits which would cut down almost all of your dudes. Your average 1st round hits are: 49/6 = 8.16 hits. Then second round will be:
65/6 = 10.83 hits which will wipe you out. You will counter with 27/6 = 4.5 hits which will not even kill all of my dudes. So not worth me doing the R6 unless you revise. -
@trout WOW I am complete missing things - how you get 14 infantry?
I sure. hate those upper boxes and having pieces sort of "hidden" under those markers. I'm not blaming you or anything I am just saying that part of the problem is that I don't see any units but I can learn that.
I just don't see how you have so many dudes.
-
@trout Hmm so those infantry can move two! ok. I will redo that turn
I had asked earlier but can we stick to units on the map and not use those upper boxes? Or is there some reason for that?
-
@johnnycat Copy/paste from above for what is in the Army Group
So I had six guys plus an entire Army Group (page 47 of the rulebook explains them). That Army Group contained one Tank Army/one Commissar Army/nine dudes/1 arty. So that was in addition to the six dudes. -
@trout how many guys are in Poland?

-
-
And that commissar and stuff are here I thought
-
@trout This is why I don't want to use that upper box thing - I get the idea of the group - so just include the marker - but having the pieces "sort of hidden" (hidden to me) is something I have not understood.
I can try but even now I only see those 5 tanks and tank general
-
@trout I think the entire problem is this marker.

I do not see it anywhere in the boxes and thought it was the 1st tank thing

Are you telling me that ALL THOSE PIECES are in the marker? Well Holy Fk Me Senseless - that CHANGES EVERYTHING hahahahahaha
1st corps and 1st tank and 2nd corps are ALL THERE?
-
@johnnycat Some free advice. Your six Hitler fanatics defend at a 4 and can't cross the seas into ME or Caucasus anyway since they fanatically love their Fatherland. They could all move back to Berlin, then you could RR two dudes from Normandy to Berlin and have the two mechs in Northern Italy rumble over to Berlin. That with moving the three fighters and putting ten land units purchased into Berlin plus moving some dudes back from GSG are all things you can do easily without effecting your push from Greece into ME which is your obvious primary strategy.
-
@johnnycat 1st Tank, 2nd Corps plus 9 comrades and 1 arty are all in 1st AG. You can see it there in the 1st AG box
-
@trout OK OK. thank you - I had no idea that those guys defended with 4!
I am stunned by the complexity of this game still.
But first things first I need to understand how many pieces are under that 1AG marker
-
@trout yea I do NOT have a 1st AG box!
Is this missing in my Mac version or am I just not seeing what is there?
-
@trout lets start with who is inside that little box in the Caucasus. It says 1st
and that needs to be defined as well
And again, if the purpose of these groupings are to just get more dice rolls I still would say to not bother and just always assume that such units are grouped into the Army Group thing...
-
@johnnycat If you are still not getting it, then I can try to re-post my F5 turn and break out everybody in the box. In other words, I can remove the 1st AG box and put all of the units and the two armies there. Will that help?
-
Here is what shows on my Mac. I could switch to PC if I am missing things.
But I had no idea until now that those 9 inf and 1 art were even ON THE BOARD !
And so where is "1st corps" ?
I still don't understand what is under the marker in Poland. Nor what is under the marker in the Caucuass
-
sorry for the posts --- too many and we are crossing signals..
I will start with this one response and I am ok with learning how to do this - I just need to understand why I cannot see any markers on my game or if I am just not understanding things the way you are.
As I said please lets start with just helping me understand what is under the marker in the Caucuses?

-
So for Cauc it shows a "1st Corps" symbol. You hover on the unit and it gives more information.

That tells us "1st Corps Russians". So we move up to the Russian 1st Corps Box to see what is in it.

Shows a Mech 2 Tanks and a Commisar. Note that the Commisar is not active. When moved to the game board it will need to be activated.
Will explain that in a moment. First here are the Captain's rules regarding how the off board Boxes work. Beginning on Page 8
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jI_1JdIC-1KiTihBICJAbtX3GpVYnNgf/view
The triplea Boxes essentially replicate this.
Edit
The way triplea creates the "2-dice roll" is by having a active Commisar that will then roll 2 dice in combat as well as boosting one of the units in it's Corps to roll 2 also.In this case, the Tank is the most powerful unit in the Corps so that is the one to boost. You need to leave the inactive Commisar, the one currently in the Box in it's Box. And move a "Soviet_Commisar_3" from the "Overflow Box" to activate the Tank to roll 2 dice.

You can also edit the correct unit into the Box or board space and some you will have too but the ones that are used the most are in the Overflow Box.
I find it best to move it to the Box it represents and then move all the Corps together on to the board.

and move the 1st Corps symbol back to it's box.

Edit
Remember you can only move in edit when in CM or NCMand most importantly any Defenders must be moved into the TTy before any Attackers. Otherwise they'll show up but they won't roll.
All of this is explained in the Game Notes
