    WAW 1940 Mod for Transport casualties

      Since the last time I played this, I noticed now that, for instance, France has a port and factory in Canada (!?). Keeps France in the game longer. I'm OK with it. However, I have a strong suggestion.
      Can we get a mod that does NOT allow taking casualties from Transports before ships/planes with a Combat value?
      As an original playtester of AaA from the 'dawn of time' back at Nova Games, we struggled with that as an issue. It was never fully resolved.
      AaA is a much different game if you have to take losses from units with a non-zero Attack value first, before taking from the Transports. Makes it MUCH more interesting.
      Can no longer send in a BB with 10 Transports and destroy any fleet that is, say full of 6-10 Combat units.
      Would LOVE to see that Mod.

        There is a game option "Transport Casualties Restricted", which would allow transport units only to be taken as casualties last after all other attacking/defending units are removed. It's for version 3 rule set, where Transports attack and defend at 0. WaW follows version 2 rule set as Transports defend at 1. Also, WaW does not have this property. To add the property, open the WaW xml (World_At_War.xml) in a text editor, search for 'propertyList' and add the following:

        <property name="Transport Casualties Restricted" value="false" editable="true">
           <boolean/>
        </property>
        

        Now the setting can be changed under 'Map/Game Options'.

          As an etcetera. The following units are considered transports, Cruiser, T.Boat and S.Submarine. To have them to be able to be taken as casualties they'll need to be changed to 'combat' transport. To do this open the xml again in a text editor and search for attachTo="Cruiser", then add as a new line <option name="isCombatTransport" value="true"/>. Add the same line to the T.Boat and S.Submarine.
          As an aside, air units can attack submarines even without a Destroyer per v2 rules. The following can be added in the <propertyList> section to change this to v3 rules that require a Destroyer's present

          <property name="Air Attack Sub Restricted" value="false" editable="true">
            <boolean/>
          </property>

            Did what you said. Edited the World_At_War.xml file in Notepad to add the recommended property, but now TripleA throws an error message and won't work.

              Error message I get...
              Could not find: world_at_war/doc/images/world_at_war.gif

              This happens after the change. I then went back in and removed it, but no change at all.

                Game WAW40 still shows on initial screen but now will not run at all. I'm going to de-intall everything. Seems it is now broken.

                  I'm sorry that you are having troubles. I personally do not use Notepad, it's okay for small quick edits, I use Notepad++.
                  I'll include a zip file with the changes.
                  World_At_War.zip
                  Special Note "Transport Casualties Restricted" value must stay false in the xml as Transports and B.Transports have a defensive value. The value can be changed in the 'Map Options' (lowest button on the left panel).
