Ok, let's see if I got this...

Ok, so now I have the ability to get this setup and just need an opponent or three, and I can start getting schooled, lol.
Where do folks go to hook up and arrange a game?

@CrazyIvan Best thing to do is create a thread here and on A&A.org asking for opponents and specifying what map/settings you want to play. You can also join the TripleA online lobby to play live games and meet other players.
I will tell you that there aren't that many A&A classic players around that I know of. Most people prefer newer versions like revised, anniversary, and global. Or prefer custom TripleA maps.

So, it's ok to post on both forums? Cool. What is the exact mechanism/process to getting folks together and setting up a game, and getting it posted to the board? Do I first need the players, and then set up the game {and on that note, exactly how do I include folks in my games}, or do I set up a thread, make the game, and leave all the player slots to 'human'?

I am open to eventually playing any game I can afford to buy before hand, preferably new as opposed to used, but until I actually have a physical board version of a given game, I'm not wanting to try the equivalent TripleA game.
Which games are still in stores?

@CrazyIvan Its best to have a thread to find opponents first before creating an actual 'game' thread and yeah I'd most looking for opponents on both forums to maximize your audience. Then once you find an opponent you can create the game thread and set up the game and post it to the thread. And yes, you should leave all slots to human when setting up the game.
Most of the A&A games are still available especially on Amazon. I often use boardgamegeek to find games and they usually link to places you can buy them. So here are most of the A&A games: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeksearch.php?action=search&objecttype=boardgame&q=axis+and+allies&B1=Go

@CrazyIvan As @redrum says. We have a dedicated category for appointments: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/27/find-online-players
