Publishing Zip distributable AKA 'All Versions'
-
We published a 'zip' distributable certainly for legacy reasons, eg " triplea-game-headed-2.0.20026.zip". Before we even had a linux installer, this was the version you would download. At this point, publishing the distributable I suspect is purely for historical reasons.
I'm thinking we should remove it for the following reasons:
- less to debug, fewer answers to the question "how did you install TripleA?"
- we bundle Java with the installer to reduce variability so we do not need to deal with variations of different Java versions. By allowing a zip to be used with an arbitrary Java, we lose this benefit
- simpler/faster build, less is more.
Does anyone know of any solid reasons why the zip version is still being published and is useful?
