How to convert text document to xml

I was unable to edit my game xml without converting it to another format and now dont know how to convert it back word xmldocument is i now know not the correct format.

I always found notepad worked well
but its been a few years

If you open an XML in notepad, and press save (not save as), it will remain as an XML document.If you need to convert text to XML, this is the easiest way I know-
Make a copy of an XML and rename it to whatever you want
Delete the contents
Copy the contents of the notepad file
Paste the contents into the empty XML -
