Visual impressions of my personal still in progress mod (148 BC scenario)
-
Eventually just to give some inspirations.
This is yet only personal use and under testing and reworking.
This is a semi-historical (like 75% historical, lots of reading and watching lectures or documentations) with a portion of imaginary non-historical aspects.
I named this mod IMPERIUM.Factions (in order below): Celtica, Germania, Hellas, Roma
Map at 40% zoom
Constructions of Roma and Hellas
Units of Roma
Units of Hellas
Units and construction of Celtica
Units and constructions of Germania
To be continued.
( I will show Germania and Celtica units and constructions seperated soon to get bigger visualizing) -
Great unit art, when its released, I will have to acquire them
What size of image did you decide on 48x48px ?
-
@thedog 55px max hight and width.

@thedog All unit pngs free to download from various png clipart sites. It only needs time and a good eye to catch those that fit the theme. I think i was searching for more then a dozen of hours total to find all i need. Those i used are only like 50% of all dowloaded pngs.
Then i tried to alter some by paint.net to better fit color or some aspects like shield or weaponary or headgear. Only some easy stuff to manipulate without srcewing up to much. I was so afraid to screw it up, i have copies all over the place to make sure i never have to search again for them. -
@torpedoa I know I already said it, but I cannot really get past seeing America and the NWO logo. I strongly suggest you at least cut the western part of the map out, getting rid of both.
Just by looking at Roma and Hellas, I see a few things that make me raise an eyebrow:
- It is "Legionarii", "Triarii" and "Sagittarii", not "Legionari", "Triari" and "Sagittari", assuming you are using ancient Latin, not current Italian.
- Why to have Legionari(i) when you have Hastati, Principes and Triari(i)? Hastati, Principes and Triarii are all Legionarii.
- Why am I not seeing the infantryman with the sarissa amongst the infantry units of Hellas? Hellas seems to represent also Macedonia, and, by the time of this scenario, all or most of the remaining part of Greece converted to the Macedonian style, whose main component were what we would call "pikemen", and whom I'm not seeing represented by any one of the units of Hellas. If you intended those to be represented by the Hoplitai, I don't think that can be acceptable: the Hoplitai refer specifically to a type of heavy infantry with a very big and heavy shield, inherently unable to hold a pike with two hands. After Alexander, the hoplites were at most a minor element in Greek armies.

@cernel Yes, you are right. But i was never aiming to be 100% historically accurate. If this mod ever would be released, i would rather put it out as experimental unpolished mod. Because even most territory names are subject to change then. And i dont have that much of motivation to have perfect historical naming. Would be nice of course.
About the phalangitai of hellenistic world, i just didnt find any png but it would be easy enough to recreate a phalangite unit out of units i already have. I have all sorts and shapes of shields, spears, lances etc to put on already similar units with paintnet. Historically the phalangitai were already declining at that point of time to more flexible units. The peak of sarissa usage was before that time. Eventually i am not fully correct here. But that is what i remember read about. But at the end you are right that it should be still available.
About Legionarii. That unit is just shown but is implemented later (Marius reforms) to replace the old manipular system of Hastatii, Principes and Triarii to the cohors type of tactical deployment. Also the Velites are vanishing by the time of Ceasar where they are known to be mentioned the last time afaik.
The whole point was to show all stuff at once, even though there are units which are implemented later in the game. Also something like Thingmen only appears much much later in history. So there are alot of intended unhistorical naming and unit types, just to please the unit roster, which i have to admit is already too much.
In general the Hellas and Roma unit types are much easier to be represented historically accurate, but if it comes to Celtica and even more so Germania unit types are much more in the dark. I mean, come on, Bloodsworn? Runeguards?
Just fantasy out of my brain.
I just found some nice pngs and had to give them a role and a name. And about America, well why not if the game is going to be turn 80 i could argue i have entered viking times and my berserkers are conquering Florida and Washington DC. I hope you get my point of stretching my imagination of srcewing up the historical horizon. Just to have more fun.
