bayder (Axis +10) defeats Wasp (Allies) in round 7 by surrender in a game mostly played online since MARTI was having issues.
With Axis frustrating USA by holding Egy all game, Allies made a strong move to Ukr to try to force the issues. Axis saw an opportunity to double-tap Ukr, while taking Cauc, so went for it. The dice gods were highly favorable and Ger's front end of the double-tap (which was 13%) actually won. Even if odds had happened, Russia was going to be in trouble with Japan entrenched in Cauc. Foregoing an option to break Egy and stack France, Allied commanders instead sued for peace.
Thank to Wasp, who is always a very tough Allied Commander...until we meet again! -bayder

bayder (Allies) beat nardawgg (Axis +9) in round 7 when Berlin fell to the Russian forces. The game was played about half pbem, half online. Allies went very aggressive in this game due to 2 factors: 1) Luftwaffe attacking the UK fleet in round 3, and 2) Japan taking 3 loaded trans out island-hopping in round 1. This combination gave Russia a lot of cushion to push west hard and fast. Combined with good Allies results in Egy and Africa, Germany was bottled up pretty quickly. The German Heer tried to counter with an aggressive move to Ukr, but Allies were able to stack EEur behind them, and then execute a daring triple-tap attack to capture Berlin. Thanks to nardawgg for a fun, fast, and friendly game...and congrats to him for making his first ToC Finals! Based on his track record, he'll surely be back again.
Also, thanks for everyone who played. We started at the beginning of Nov, and finished the entire tournament within 2 months. Definitely better than waiting around for months and months! I will plan to organize ToC18 when the dust settles after the New Year. Cheers! -bayder
