When we mix up colours, it may become confusing.

Here is a circular templet you can use, at a similar size to the one I saw above. Basically like a 50px image on a 54px canvas. You can use colorizer on that in GIMP and it will give you a pretty consistent blend there for whatever color. Then you can add the images and text on top after and it will prevent white/gray pixels from bleeding into near edges.
At a 50% gray HEX 808080 I made you a couple options one which has a 1 px line reduced, a thicker 2 px and a 3px line reduced.
Then the same thing colorized with the Hex similar to the color from the images in that post above, just to show what it does. When colorizing if you change the color value (light/dark) rather than just the hue, this may cause darker/lighter grays to be colorized rather than mimicking a black, so you just want to make sure you don't lose the desired darkness when moving the slider around.
I think for circles and such, prob best is to leave 2 pixels of empty space on either side of the canvas when doing a reduce/enlarge. I think this will give it just that little bit of extra room to apply the antialiasing/interpolation, like where the image doesn't come right up on the canvas.
Here's a quickie showing the difference black text compared to white. I didn't have the silhouette or that same font, but here something sorta similar just to give an impression. The boards tend to upscale smaller images for the display
