      I don't know how to run the attacks on the islands because of those forts. I thought I read once that in times like this you remove the fort and inf and replace it with a tank for one turn but I dunno...

          @beelee ok thank you for clarifying that. So I’m going to search for breakfast.

          If you can tell me what I need to do I’ll execute the attacks. I’m guessing I just have to ensure certain rules that the ai doesn’t naturally do but even that I don’t know yet. 😎

            yea I'm going through it right now. I'm going to post a save and you can use History to go through it turn by turn to see how to do it.

            Couple things for starters. the Repair BB won't place in 16 so you placed in 17 which is fine. Then at start of CombatMove, remove the damaged BB and replace with undamaged one. The token will disappear on it's own.

            You have 2 Elites in HI. Since you can only have 1, I think not moving the 2nd one this turn is a good compromise instead of going back to when the error occured and trying to fix it.

            This is a learning game after all.

            Marines need to be paired with Artillery. Otherwise you need to use MarineA1. Also, if a Elite is present and a Marine and only 1 Arty, you need to use a MarineA1 as the Elite may or may not get the bonus but the Marine will attack at 2 if it does.

            Two 2's are statistically better than one 3. At any rate, it's close enough not to go overboard with it. If one really wants the Elite to attack at 1 and the Marine at 3, you need to hand roll the battle or fight it in edit.

            We won't concern ourselves with that right now.

            You have 2 Arty and 2 Marines attacking Caroline, so no adjustment needed since we left the Elite in HI.

            The other Marine we change to Marine A1 that is landing in IWO as it has no Artillery support. The BB is also repaired, so it can provide shore Bombardment, as when it is damaged it can't.

            The only Forts are in Caroline. You need not do anything special for the battle, other than DO NOT select the Forts as casualties until ALL other defending units are destroyed.

            Once all defenders are destroyed, continue rolling until all the Forts ared dead.

            I will critique your attack shortly.

                  OK then the Elite can join the attack on Caroline and one of the Marines needs to be changed to Marine A1.

                  Here is what triplea will default to as casualties in the caroline battle

                  So deselct the Fortifications and take 2 Inf

                  Note you still have 2 Inf or JPN does, so they will continue to defend inside the bunkers or Forts or w/e lol

                  That's why the Arty was selected as it only defends at 2

                  yes it can get quite complex 🙂 It gets easier with experience.

                  Now I'm not sure your plan for the CA in HI or the Ships in 16 but an additional Bombard on IWO is possible with one of the CAs. However, the IJN in 20 SZ can sail from the Kwangtung NB and strike the US Fleet off Iwo or in 16 unless 2 CAs are deployed as blockers to prevent that.

                  Anyway, that should pretty much cover it. Open History and click through move by move to better understand it.

                  When edit is turned on in History, you need to switch back to History or it will skip over the edit moves.

                    I thought only special bb could do that.

                    And what’s all that talk about Japan and me needing two, but not one destroyer ????

                    If you are referring to the Japanese ability to move next turn yea I know that and have been counting on my tin cans mostly to block them. I learned that subs cannot block but are you telling me that destroyers cannot block either unless there are two of them ???

                        Sorry for the delay Good Sir, but I needed to figure out things like how ships could bombard and how to make more money in REAL LIFE (I am here on business, after all) and overcome Jet Lag, 🙂

                        Finally attached is my USA 5 move - of course I am NOT invading the main island, but I am wanting to Bomb the Heck out of it, so you get to fly up 4 fighters to meet my heckload of fighters (7) and bombers (4) I guess.

                        So I am awaiting your decision on if you want to send up those four fighters to die a grizzly death upon the slopes of Mount Fuji...

                        I don't even know if your choice is optional but figure I better ask

                        Attached is the game map so that you can see that I decided to try and abscond with some of your islands while still keeping pressure on your precious sea zone 6 heehee

                        Am I doing this correctly?

                        I don't think I am doing anything odd expect one cruiser is bombarding that Carolines place... Everyone else is just moving about the chess board.

                        Also just a note about the board. As stated in the USA turn 4 that one Elite guy stayed on board his transport - but the board showed two elites in Hawaii itself and that was incorrect. Too bad for me because I cannot now use that transport the way I wanted but this is how we learn.

                        I also note that of the 16 Russian conscripts that I placed last turn - ah 3 got missing. I think this is because I placed 6 incorrectly in that Ukraine zone and then deleted 3 to comply but forgot to increase the 7 in Moscow to 10. So I will use edit to add three more of those conscripts suckers after this turn. And next future games I will remember to save because Russia 5 can purchase 26 of those dudes and my only saving to buy 16 rather sux... hahaha. but again a GREAT LEARNING experience.

                          @johnnycat No problem. We all have lives so sometimes need to go dark for awhile. 4 fighters against 7 seems like an unfair fight. So I will just let my AAA shoot you down. Hah!

                            @trout funny thing is that I don’t even know what that means Now hahaha. But I sure anticipated that. Cuz why why throw away your planes.

                            So I guess that means that the bombers get there unaffected by those pesky balsa wood zeros but they each have to try and avoid your guys from rolling 1s From the AA, right?

                            In theory my four bombers pass that hurdle and then can decide which targets I’m
                            Bombing (harbor, factory, brothel) right?

                            Or do i have to state that up front?

                            And, other than the brothel, what’s the consequence of damage to your various units? Does the harbor not work if damaged? Air field not give bonus?

                            Does the factor produce less or what?

                              yea you have to declare where the Bmbrs and Escorts are going and then the defender decides if he wants to intercept.

                              So if you send say 2 Bmbrs and 3 Escorts at the Fctry and 1 Bmbr and 2 Escorts at the Harbor and AB, he can then vector all of his Ftrs to defend the Fctry, which is the most valuable target.

                              So you want to send everything at the Fctry 🙂

                              For the Elite, you simply remove him in edit and then add him to the SZ. Just need to do it no later than the start of CombatMove

                              If you do go against multiple Targets, you will need to hand roll the Air Battle as triplea treats it as one battle instead of separate ones.

                              @JohnnyCat you are using an older save. Before UK's turn you need to remove 1 Arty 1 Tank and 2 LMs from India.

                              You can redo the USA CM phase by editing in the Elite as mentioned above as well.

                              Ah I see you already have the Elite in play. You need to switch the BB to repaired though.

                                @beelee OH Man am I confused. Sorry but bad internet and I was just barely able to start that turn and everything crashed. And yea I saw that we were using some incorrect map parts...

                                Anyway I just told @Trout "Hey Mate I am bombing Japan" and not any specific targets and he said no scramble so I guess it does not matter now - but in the future I will state things very specifically because my entire intent was to bomb multiple targets (the factor, the harbor and that airbase)

                                I moved hotels so I am now in reasonable internet again - so what is the deal with damage to the factory/base/harbor?

                                QUESTION: I asked earlier and my apologies if you already answered - why even bomb if the factories / bases/ harbors cannot be destroyed? They do not even need to be healed from what I see.

                                I read page 23-24 and found no answers so I have to ask. Otherwise I don't see any purpose in bombing - and then there is the underground factories which are immune anyway.

                                    Hey Gents. I finished USA 5 -- Brutal loss of 2 bombers hahaha.

                                    Things were a tad confusing for me but as far as I can tell, I got the map corrected. But I had to restart the turn - originally I was going to bomb Japan but as I was starting that the net crashed for me and I was not even sure if I was connected to the dice server. Anyway, I gave this lots of thought and decided to try and nab up all the islands I could instead. And my two bombers were shot down over IWO JIMA with anti aircraft missiles from the future. NOTE Did you ever see that movie where a "modern carrier" slips through time to Dec 5 1941? It was a late 80s movie I think.

                                    So 3 more Russian suckers (Conscripts) were added to Moscow since 3 disappeared for some reason - and I don't know why Might want you guys to double check what happened because I bought 16 (I will buy 26 future games) and wanted 3 in Karelia, and 6 in UKraine and 7 in Moscow but somehow that was wrong? Where is Stalingrad? I don't see that but apparent we can put 6 there?

                                    Anyway the USA like I said lost 2 bombers which sucks but they took some islands, blocked some IPN and bought stuff. Moved some paratroops to Alaska to jump over the somewhere in Russia I guess - is that legal?

                                    I bought the USS Iowa - that is cool.

                                    I need a nap so I will get to China and ANZAC later.

                                    OH and I had to use Edit to fix my damaged BB and weirdly had to use edit to land the lone bomber that survived Caroline Islands. The AI let me attack there because there was a legit landing for the unit in New Guinea- but after the attack the game would not let me move it there. weird; did I do something wrong?

                                      Attached is the UK Turn 5 that I intend to do.

                                      QUESTIONS:

                                      1. My 3 UK paratroopers believe that they alone can liberate France and want to go for it. They are already planning their ticker tape parade and lining up the girls. How is this handled?

                                      Not lining up the girls, I mean :

                                      Do your planes get to try and intercept?

                                      What about AA?

                                      Can I send my 5 fighters along to watch them get crushed?

                                      1. I intend to build an airbase in Egypt. In my dreams I can place it during the first turn, then use it to give my planes there an extra space to run and mess stuff up, but I'm guessing the Airbase gets placed after my non-combat phase and the turn is over, yes?

                                      That's it for my questions - I have not actually started this turn yet and this saved game is merely to show the map of what I intend to do assuming the Gods of Rules allow it.

                                      Thanks you and it's great to feel like I can play this game again - those few days with terrible internet were... well they were "terrible" 🙂

                                        Same question on the factory upgrade - is that the beginning of the turn so that I can place 4 guys in that factory (assuming I upgrade South Afrika or Egypt).

                                        Or do I place the upgraded factory then use it to add 4 units the next turn?

                                          @johnnycat Sorry about the bombers in Iwo Jima .... well not really :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes: For Russia, you can never place more than three units in any complex except Moscow. Only exception is on R5 only, can place up to 6 conscripts in Volgograd. So your R placements will need to be revised a bit before G6. Also, you cannot choo choo more than three each turn. For Paris, you can attack there. I am not looking at our board now so don't recall what is there. But if I have an AAA gun there, yes he can shoot at paratroopers and airplanes. But only three total. So if I shoot at your three paras then I cannot also shoot at your planes. As for whether that is good strategy, since you are winning at the moment I will let you figure that out. Hah!!

                                          Alaska paras could jump to RFE if you build an airbase there. Otherwise they would fall out of the airplanes into the lovely ocean where the King Crabs hang out at. A bit chilly water there I understand.

                                            Paras move two. But three from a base.

                                            I’m still trying to figure out when that airbase gets built.

                                            Do I get to build the airbase and move the guys three?

                                            Maybe an easier question is : I’m assuming everything gets built in the final placement phase after non-combat move, so what units get built in the first placement phase?

                                            The only answer I know is repair of bb and ca. And those lend lease units get “bought” in that first phase and get me
                                            Moved and used.

                                            Anything else you know gets built that first phase? Maybe conversion of inf to marines …
