Best game for AI
-
I appreciate everyone's responses. I haven't tried giving one side or the other an increase in PUs so I will give that a go. I have used the edit function to change the game a bit (like getting rid of trains for example because the AI doesn't seem to handle those too well). I like many of the games like Iron War and WaW using fuel but the AI does struggle a bit with those. I'll keep at it and again I appreciate everyone taking their time to help me out.

@forthebirds My preference is to play only 1 country so I am saddled with AI-controlled allies.

@RogerCooper
With all of your play-testing experience, is there a specific WWII game that you feel gives you the best challenge or is the most fun to play against the AI? -
@forthebirds I don't have particular favorite. However, playing Russia is usually the most interesting. Playing Australia in the Global game is also an interesting challenge. The Grand War is fun, but the AI has some trouble.

@forthebirds Didn't actually try it, but, for what I know of the AI, probably "World At War" is one of the best games to play with the AI, but only as long as the AI is the "Allies" (and you are playing the "Axis"). But I'm curious if this is true, since you say the AI was Axis. Did you try to play "World At War" against the AI as Allies too, or not?
The AI plays AntiRomanAlliance in 270BC very badly (especially Carthage and Macedonia), so the AI should better play as RomanAlliance only, in that one (and still that is a map that the AI has huge difficulties with, and would definitely not suggest for games with AI).

@forthebirds Generally speaking, the AI has huge difficulties playing games that have huge starting TUV/production ratio (for example WWIIv6, that the AI plays very badly) or that are very clustered, with little space between capitals or important territories (for example 270BC) or that have income distributed in exposed territories. That is because, in those conditions, every bad moves on round 1 has a massive snowball effect, and the AI is pretty bad at optimizing openings.
So, as long as you pick a game in which the starting TUV you have is not so important, with respect with what you are going to produce thereafter, and that has a fairly amount of room to manoeuvre, and that has a lot of income in capitals or other safe territories, you should be fine.
Based on the description I just gave, maybe "Napoleonic Empires" is good for AI gameplay. You can try that out, see how it goes.

If you go to axisandallies.fandom.com, you have the option of choosing a random scenario. A nice thing about an AI game, it that if doesn't look interesting you can stop playing.

hehe we have come sooooo far from the old Risk game amiright

@Cernel
I thought that the axis played very well In World at War except toward the endgame when the Japanese built large armies in its capitals and wouldn't venture out when it should have. At the time I was glad that it did:winking_face: .Next time, I probably should ,for one turn at least, play its turn & bust it out of there & then see what happens. Overall though, it played a very good game.
As far as the allies, I find that the French were attacking Spain & the USA was attacking South America( The neutrals attract, it seems) . Also, the Dutch don't protect its islands too well & they also attack S. America. -
Thanks for bringing The Grand War to my attention. It looks interesting. Also, I didn't know about the option of choosing a random scenario at fandom.com.
I'll give that a go. TripleA is great & has an informative forum.
