old lobby
-
how long will the old lobby remain open for players to finish old saved games?
-
@SilverBullet @LaFayette and I were discussing closing it in another few weeks since it appears there is rarely anyone in there now. Last time I looked 4 players. Any objections?
-
I been checking once a day for last 3 weeks. First two was no activity. Last week 2-6 players . So just a fyi : )
-
@prastle @SilverBullet @LaFayette @beelee , @colin and i are in the middle of a fairly active TWW game we are maybe halfway through we'll need at least a few more weeks. @Gully and @Nothingtoseehere are also in the middle of a game that was started about the same time. they are i guess going slower than we are but do need live play as much either.
-
so 2 weeks?
-
@SilverBullet more, we go about one team per day maybe more we started a month ago.
-
@SilverBullet is there any real cost to leaving it open if it's not utilizing resources? maybe we turn all but 2 or 3 of the bots off?
-
no big deal for me personally i just like to know so i can tell any player that asks. i dont have the power to shut it down in any case.
-
@SilverBullet i think whenever we decide what the drop-dead date is we should def edit the welcome message to let any stragglers know how much time is left to wrap things up, and maybe some directions or a link on how to make direct connect games.
-
might as well put a message now, might be some other saves that need finishing and the players need a reminder.
-
@SilverBullet i think it only makes sense once we have a final date.
-
@SilverBullet unless we want to say something vague like this lobby will be closed soon.
-
@SilverBullet here's another thought maybe post a link to this thread also so anyone who needs more time can make their voices heard.
-
yes, a vague reminder before we know the date would work well imo.
-
@SilverBullet in general im against vagueness but there's a huge difference between weeks and months and i feel like the truth lies somewhere in between.
-
the "truth" is out there?

@ubernaut We didn't change back to 1.9 when I said we would do so. Instead we waited for 2.0/1 to become viable. So we aren't using the old lobby.
-
Damn - I got loads of old game saves I didn't know things are not backwards compatible - I just thought if ya using the same map all would be good. So how would I ever finish old games if I ever found the players again to finish?
I thought if we both had old versions on our systems there would still be a way to connect up - if only there was a generic old lobby where people could float into to finish old game saves - just need to tell peeps to both be using the same version when loading an old game save.

Yes, there is. You can still play by direct connection (the one hosting the game will have to communicate its address and port to the other one). I assume you can also still PBEM, but I'm not sure.
Of course, if you mean playing in automated hosts, I believe no automated hosts are hosted by TripleA for any versions previous 1.9 and the ones hosted for 1.9.0.0 are likely going to be taken out soon.

@Cernel I've tried to host before but get hung up on the ports issue not being very confident with tech having to disable firewalls and such like when it comes up with it cant connect to my computer or its not connected to the internet always put me off as I don't really know what I am doing - I need a wizard to kind of do it all for me. Hence I always loaded up my game saves with others in a bot to finish. Hmm maybe there's a way I can get someones help to allow me to set it up so I can host on that port 3300 or whatever it is and then its done for ever and any opponent just had to connect up or do they have to configure past there own firewalls to?
