PBEM without Dice Server?

I'm wondering if it was ever discussed to allow PBEM without a dice server?
I understand that the dice server is a way to prevent cheating, but it's also an extra hurdle (in terms of set up, especially given the current dice server doesn't work with gmail anymore).
Presumably, it should be possible to just make the TripleA client generate the dice rolls and email those.
I'm not saying this should be the only way to do PBEM, I think it's fine to keep the Dice Server as an option, but seems like removing the requirement for it could simplify things for many use cases where the players trust each other.

This had been possible in the past when the PBF-settings allowed to select either the local dicey or the remote MARTI-dice. Unfortunately this feature had been removed accidentally - and players do miss this feature.
It has already been discussed to reinstate this feature, but.... well ...
