Age of Tribes World map new official thread

@ted-self Here it is, in its final form, lol. How many times have I said that now? Only thing left is to remove duplicate folders, Roger said he would do that and upload it to the repository. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gh1sFPvnmK8EY6KOvaQugFQ4uZik7F_e/view?usp=sharing

@ted-self Subtle changes made, sorry about that. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gh1sFPvnmK8EY6KOvaQugFQ4uZik7F_e/view?usp=sharing

@ted-self Well, I have come back after a couple of years and been playing ageworld again and I think the best way to play is to make 3 factions on turn one in edit mode. Europe and the slavs, africa, india and the aztecs and china, middle east and inca. I have had fun playing as Europe and all other players on fast ai. There still is a problem, the victory cities thing does not work. I have not been able to figure it out. could someone download it from google (see url above) and let me know what is wrong? It is the xml in the map/game folder called AgeWorld.xml, it is 1,478 KB.

When setting up 'factions' using 'Edit Mode' you are changing the political relationship between these players, in fact the button states "Change Political Relationships". Okay, no problem, this could be done with a game option and some triggers. The reason 'Victory Conditions' do not work is they work off of alliances, something 'Age of Tribes' and 'AgeWorld' do not have. "Triggered Victory" will need to be used, with the proper conditions, triggers and annotations in notifications.properties file. Please see this topic for more information.
Cheers...

@wc_sumpton Hi, thanks for reply, so I got enough VCs with just one nation, the Europeans. So you are saying VCs only work if your nation is in an alliance? What if I was playing everyone against everyone else? Still no way to make the VCs work? Also I thought age of tribes did have coalitions, 4 against 4?

You are correct, I checked the xml copy in your, not in the main game. It may assign the player as the default 'alliance', PoS2 is not very clear on this point. 'game option type victory conditions' will only use alliances and not 'relationships' either set in the xml or via 'Edit Mode', which is what I thought your question was about.
Cheers...

@wc_sumpton ok, thanks, I have been looking at the topic link you suggested with a puzzled look on my face and I think it is starting to sink in.

-
@ted-self It wouldn't be hard to change the mod to have multiple alliances. You would just need to modify the section starting with <alliance player="Brittonic" alliance="Western Tribes"/> and the section starting with <property name="Eastern Tribes Total Victory VCs" value="7" editable="false"> </property>
If you get something interesting working, let me know and I can post it to Github. The problem with Age of Tribes is the West vs East alliance structure makes for a dull game.

@rogercooper Thanks for that. If I can't get it to work then I guess having victory cities on the map is useless, unless there is something else they might be used for? Anyhow I know you and some other folks maybe didn't like my map much for one reason because Capitols are not that special, but that's why I tried to use victory cities, so the Capitols are worth something. Eve if I can't get victory cities to work AgeTribe is still my favorite map. To start out world history with stone axes and end up with ballistic nuclear missiles is fascinating to me. To me the main problem was finding balance, I've talked about that before. The 3 factions that I mentioned earlier is the best I have come up with but Europe and the Slavs still have a better chance at winning than the other two factions. Of course I have never played it against another human. The way it's been working out is Europe takes on the Middle East, the Slavs take on China. India knows it is surrounded and plays cautiously and Africa is fighting the barbarians, The Incas and Aztecs bottleneck around the Mayan Empire and start building ships and trying to spread out. In the current game I am playing India lost its' Capitol but has survived by taking boats to Australia and went island hopping and are still a power. I am just playing Europe and my ally the Slavs are ai so the turns go by quickly, full of action. I use a 4 or 5 turn limit for battles. I hope I have perked someone's interest out there.

@ted-self You should be able to get victory cities to work, it is actually fairly easy to do.
The problem with AgeWorld is the time scale. Normally TripleA is used to model specific conflicts, not the rise and fall of civilizations. Two stable alliances covering thousands of years of history doesn't make sense as a simulation, although it can work as a game.
You may want to take a look at games which have some political models like 1888A Steam & Steel where the AI players gang up on the leader or the vassalage model from Twelve Clans.
-
@rogercooper OK thanks, I might try those soon. But they don't have the beloved tech tree.

-
@ted-self You can their poltical stuff into AgeWorld.
-
@rogercooper I see, Yes I will look into it. Another way to play ageworld is to set everyone against everyone using edit on turn one. That gets rid of the thing about unrealistic alliances lasting thousands of years, but at some point the gods might have to intervene to keep the aztecs from destroying the incas and then winning the game.

@ted-self
1888A Steam & Steel tech tree is modelled on Age of Tribes, but only spans about 100 years. -

To play any any of the modern maps with isAI in the xml/code you will need a stable version later than 2.5.22294If you want to, go here
https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/releases/tag/2.7.15230
Its the version Im currently using.If you are confident you can have multiple versions of TripleA engine here

@ted-self I have generally found that pure free-for-alls don't work very well as games. There needs to be at least a way of declaring war and making peace.
-
you may want to check out "Another World" for a game that is a "Civilization" type game. It has a few errors that pop up from time to time.
You might enjoy it though

-
@thedog Well I have the 1888 map loaded and I must say there is a stiff learning curve early on, but it is intriguing.
-
@ted-self
Hopefully 1888A has enough documentation to guide you. It does have a lot built in.
