              @victoryfirst Good morning. Need to ask a question as it appears you are about to introduce me to the concept of max KJF VF-style. 🙂 Regarding the shore bombardment rules that I now know I had previously misunderstood, I believe the rules are that if even a single destroyer is present, then no shore bombardment is possible. Also, you can mobilize naval ships into Sea Zones even if there are enemy ships there. So if I am correct, then I guess Japan can indefinitely prevent shore bombardment of Japan by just buying at least one destroyer or escort and placing it in SZ 6 each turn. Is that correct or I am missing something?? If that is correct, then battleships/cruisers truly suck except for the Super Heavies.

                @trout Yes you are almost fully correct, all surface warships will prevent shore bombardment so that includes all ships except transports and submarines. The thing with those units is that the attacker has the option to ignore these units allowing them to shore bombard the territory, or attack these units and forgo the ability to bombard.

                  you are saying cruisers/battleships suck, that is not entirely true. I sometimes purchase a cruiser as ANZAC or US to help capture Japanese islands with two infantry on a transport, something any other unit cannot always do. But that is usually late in the game, if my existing cruisers have already died.

                  but yeah, i mostly prefer destroyers + carriers/fighters, however there might be other people who purcahse more cruisers and/or battleships. Battleships can still be very valuable units because they can soak up a hit and that makes them the most cost effective naval unit, besides super heavy battleships. Their only drawback is that it is hard to manoeuvre them well if there are many annoying blocker units like escorts and destroyers.

                  And there are not always units that will prevent shore bombardment, at some point they are all gone and then these BBs and CVs are very valuable..

                    While I don't normally buy them, I wouldn't say they're worthless. If you're trying to attrit JPN by Bombarding them every turn after you control 6 SZ, that won't quite work.

                    But JPN will have to spend 6 bucks a turn with only a 1 in 3 chance to get a hit, remember CV gets hit first then BB, so a good idea to have an empty CV or two to soak hits.

                    Anyway, control of 6 SZ will be doing massive convoy damage. JPN rarely falls or Moscow either. Usually Economic Victory happens first.

                    Massive Hvy Bmbrs and a Huge Fleet, with a backup ANZAC Fleet for the knockout blow, their BBs will bombard, might do the trick.

                    If Allies are threatening Tokyo, ANZC should be making good coin by then

                        @victoryfirst Okay, saying they completely are worthless is not accurate, agreed. For some reason, we had gotten the idea that ships could choose to participate in sea battle or shore bombard, not both. Which made them more flexible in their uses. But I now see clearly that was not the rule all along. And now I understand why there were some forum comments from time to time about how difficult it is to invade Japan outright. Regardless, really enjoy playing both of you and thanks for being patient with these rules issues plus the Triple A learning curve.

                          @trout In HBG's Global War 1936, a massive A&A style game designed by a game company, you can divide up your fleet in a screening force and a moving force. If there is a blocker somewhere you can assign for example two ships to attack that blocker, and the rest of your fleet can then move through if succesful. I think that's a very fun rule and it more realistically portrays naval war. There should also be something like this with naval bombardment. Not the entire fleet will go after the lone escort, just a couple ships. The rest is then free to bombard.

                              @victoryfirst Agree completely. I think Captain is a fan of adding new units but not changing OOB rules. But to me, this is the biggest one that needs to be re-thought if there was a review of OOB rules done. I used to play YG's House Rules version and I think that's where I got the idea of the shore bombardment vs. sea battle and then when I switched to Captain's HRE, I didn't realize that the OOB rule was different. Anywho I will adjust fire and move forward. That's the old military training kicking in

                                  @victoryfirst Hey VF. The TripleA engine activated Mongolia as Soviet so do you know how we can edit that out? HRE doesn't use the Mongolia activation when attacking next to its border as far as I know. I asked Captain for clarification this a couple of months ago and he confirmed that HRE's USSR-Japan Treaty conditions apply and not the OOB conditions.

                                        This is only After Turn 2. Not until the NAP goes into affect does the Mongols stay Neutral. I did run across an issue late game a few games ago where they changed but I think it's fixed. Just didn't test heavily.

                                        But yea, if needed, just use edit.

                                        Also, sometimes the Natl Grd fires off, you have to remove them with edit . I've tried to get that to work correctly and for the most part it does but relationships are one of the more complex things in the xml, so just need to use edit when they place incorrectly.

                                          @beelee okay- I may have screwed up the game early again from a rules issue then. So Soviets declared war on R2 but didn’t attack anywhere. Then on J2, I attacked Amur. So in that situation, Mongols join the Allies?
