EXP G40 Game 4 Trout vs JCat

I wondered if you guys are aware of the tripleA battle computer sea zone battle flaw?
Because we “player enforce” taking transports last, the battle computer is way off.
I just wasted that USA fleet but the battle computer had it a tad closer I’m wondering if either of you know how far off it is?
Just take a simple example of you attacking with 8-fighters versus a 3-hit BB that is traveling with 6 transports.
IF the first three hits MUST sink the BB, then the TTs are sitting ducks...
But doing it the OOB way, the first three hits would hits transports and thus ensure two rounds of huge defensize rolls that would decimate the attackers.
I’m just curious how you guys calculate battle percentages given this flaw.

@johnnycat Scramble or no scramble for SZ 35 Mr. JC? That is the question.

Ok Germany has a serious question for you.
I’ve tried a few times to share with you my absolute joy at playing these games and the fact that I find the process of calculating multiple turns ahead to be immensely fun. I also said that I have little concern for who wins or loses.
So here we are at another turning point ; a fork in the road so to speak.
So I can populate the Baltic states with 59 units.
And you could then attack with everything USSR has which is also 59 units.
That’s a 26 percent chance to win so it’s really an outcome connected to bad dice or good dice more than strategy.
So how do you want me to play this ?
I have an offer that I’d like you to consider.
I suggest that indeed I move in there. And you can attack and we play that out unless it’s one sided…
But that we play our next game by returning to this point and Germany chooses a more conservative German 7 turn where that attack is delayed, if ever.
How you think ?
-
@johnnycat Hey JC. I very respectfully decline. I learn by making mistakes or seeing how a strategy I pursued didn't work out in a certain situation. For example, in this game, I made a big mistake when you destroyed my China stack early in the game. But I don't want to ask you to let me go back and change my turn to correct that mistake. That's how you learn is to make mistakes and then get better from that. For what you are suggesting, I think the best thing to do is play yourself locally. So you can play Axis and pursue a certain strategy and see how that plays out against different moves you make as the Allies. I don't know if that makes sense.
So if you move into Baltic and it backfires, well that could happen. Or maybe it does work out. There's also the dice element. So at the moment, I am a little perturbed that I should have been able to take Philippines with ANZAC and didn't because the dice rolls didn't work out for me. But that's part of the game. Don't know if that makes sense or not.
-
@trout sure I respect and understand that.
Ok then before I start I’m going to have to do some serious mathematical calculations just to ensure I’m
Making as good a choice as I can.So I might need more time than usual with this next turn.
-
@trout and yea that Japanese air power thing is best worth respecting !!! I’m always shocked by how impactful
That can be ! -
@trout I think you posted the wrong actual game save - I see the results of course but the file is still in the ANZAC precombat phase
I wonder if I can hold onto the Philippines
-
-
Was ist das? Tha BB with a C is part of the new rules right? I don't know how that works and cannot find it in the rules yet.

Hi Cat
Yea battle calc can you get you close but you need to tweak it sometimes. In the case of the Trprts you could replace them with Submarines as they both defend at 1 and run the calc and compare the difference.
The defender would also need a DD or Escort or the Subs defending would skew with their First Strike.
Most experienced/Top Tier players avoid large battles due to the fact they can be dicey. Especially Naval.
I generally only do it if I'm losing, the odds are heavy in my favor or if I think the result of leaving the large stack intact is even more dangerous the next turn.
Naval battles can be especially dicey.
You may find this an interesting read https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/35286/warfare-principles-of-axis-allies-by-andrewaagamer?_=1774581356492
With the large number of units in HRE, it is harder to cipher, which is what produces the variety of strategies and tactical ways to achieve them but it also gives some good ideas none the less
Edit
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/assets/uploads/files/1770916645890-38.g40-naval-commander.pdfI need to clarify the in Game Notes. You need to edit in an Active NC. It has a red C. Then it will give the bonus
-
@beelee thank you for that !!!
-
Another way to test stuff besides using the battle calc, is to switch to low luck before you fire up the save.
Then fight the battle. You have to still take the correct PE casualties and it won't give a percentage but it will give you pretty close to a average dice result.

@johnnycat Sorry about that. You were close but not exactly. See attached.

@trout good morning.
Thanks I’ll have a turn for ya in the next two hours. Gonna make a BIG GAMBLE
-
@johnnycat I think big gambles are what you live for as best I can tell when it comes to your strategies in this game

-
@trout hmm good to know that then.
Ok then I’ll switch to a more conservative plan. I don’t want to be predictable haha.
-
@beelee GREAT IDEA. Thank You

OKkidoke here is Turn 7 Germany complete- but BIG ISSUE: The minor factory is for GREECE and the game acted weird (Mac issues maybe?) and will not allow me to place the factory in Greece.
So I TEMPORARILY placed it in Romania but it is not there.
@beelee Can you help with this? Or can @trout just move it during his turn in one of his edits? Thank you
