I have not had any luck downloading Larry Harri's 1914 Map through the Triple A download maps. Every time i have tried I get an error message and then I can't play other games I previously downloaded. I then am forced to delete this map and its contents so I can use Triple A for other games. Can someone help?

Also, is it possible to add Calvary units as a add on like you all have done with the original AA game with Artillery and Destroyers? In other words can there be a check box to check to add this unit to the game to give it a more realistic affect like the rest of the WW I games, this unit is needed for this game,

      TRhanks!

"World War I 1914 Tournament Rules" is packed within a double directory so 1.8 cannot find the files. @VictoryFirst will need to correct this. Also, the xml has some advanced code so fixing the directory problem will not help with running this map in TripleA version 1.8.

        Sorry.

Not on version 1.8, but @VictoryFirst would be the one to answer this.

        Cheers...

The error message is reproducible with 2.5.stable, too.
However, it downloads and runs fine with TripleA 2.7 (tested with 2.7.15256).

@TonyMez did not specify which version that was being used. The xml states <triplea minimumVersion="1.8"/>, so to help it should be assumed that a version of TripleA at 1.8 or higher is being used.
It is the double directory, when the map is installed using a version prior to 2.7, that is causing the load problem. When installed using 2.7 everything gets un-zipped into the upper directory, "world_war_i_1914_improved_and_tournament_rules" and "world-war-i-1914-improved-main-master" is removed. Version 2.7 uses the map.yml, which does work even though "map_name" is wrong, it should point to "world_war_i_1914_improved_and_tournament_rules".
Using a version prior to 2.7, TripleA uses the "mapName" property in the xml, "world_war_i_1914_improved", which might not exist or is the internal, second, directory. This is causing

            That @TonyMez is experiencing.
To fix this problem, remove the second directory. As stated above, 2.7 does this automatically. Correct "map_name" in map.yml and "mapName" in the xml to point to the proper directory.

The xml uses "<variableList>", which means that this map is not compatible with TripleA versions prior to 2.5 so the "minimumVersion" should be changed to "2.5". Changing "minimumVersion" to "2.7" would stop the problem that @TonyMez described, but is unnecessary if the double directory problem is fixed.
As discussed here , the directory, "map_name" and "mapName" should be fixed, by @VictoryFirst, the map's owner, to allow the map to load properly and not force a user to remove a map just to unstick TripleA.

            Cheers...

Thank you for your interesting input and explanation of the problems.
It is good to have them summarized, as those problems or parts of them occur quite regularly.

Now after this discussion and the discussion we had some days ago about the "France Goes First" map I would wish, that we allowed only maps (modules) to be part of the 'official repos' and downloadable from inside TripleA that meet some 'formal requirements'.

In other words I miss sort of a "quality check" before maps are added. Not concerning gameplay but concerning formally clean file structure and basic xml/yml-necessities.
No offense against map makers but a requirement to be controlled when adding/merging.

I agree. These issues that I'm pointing out with this map are the same issues I'm having with D-Day 2 PoC. Even though this map is not available through the TripleA download, as the author, I should ensure that the link to download this mod is compatible with the version of TripleA listed as "minimumVersion".
I've just uploaded a new version, changing both map.yml and mapName.
So yes, @Panther, you can point at me also for having this issue.

                Cheers...

Before I post anything, I run it with the AI and check for missing images. And I always look for double folders. I will also look for xml files with the same name as an existing mod for future uploads.

Thanks for bringing this issue to light. I did not know that the TripleA minimum version was important. I changed these in the XMLs of World War I 1914 Improved and Tournament, currently awaiting the requests to be merged.

The minimum version is 2.7.1 for these modules because of the advanced code. I will keep this in mind in the future.

@wc_sumpton Thanks for the explanation of the directories. I avoided version 2.5 because I also used to get weird error messages when loading games. I don't think it's necessary to correct this though as the minimum TripleA version will now be set to 2.7.1, and with that version there are no problems. So as far as I know the only necessary fix is to change the triplea minimum version.

                    @TonyMez

Also, is it possible to add Calvary units as a add on like you all have done with the original AA game with Artillery and Destroyers? It would be possible, however this module is based on a board game, and I would like to have the module match the rules of the board game as much as possible. Adding a cavalry unit sounds like a house rule to me, which requires a separate module in my opinion.

I didn't add the game option of artillery and destroyers in the Original Europe module (I assume you were talking about that). In fact, I removed them. The original module had this game option, but in my improved module (called Europe Improved) I only have game options that are either in the game rules, or have to do with how the engine handles certain things (with the exception being low luck, I think that should be an option for every triplea module).

If you would like to have cavalry units, I suggest you make a copy of my module and call it something like: "World War I 1914 with Cavalry". Then make the necessary changes. If you need help with this let me know.

Actually, just reread your post again. You didn't specify if your problems were caused by one of my modules ("World War I 1914 Improved and Tournament Rules" and "World War I 1914 Balanced") or by the original module for WWI 1914 ("World War I 1914").

                      Which module caused the error?

The reason for these 'weird' error message was caused by the double directory and the "mapName", which 2.5 uses to load the map.

xml wise, the only difference between 2.5 and 2.7 is "isAI". Myself, as a 'developer', IMHO, would look for the widest possible audience to play my map. This was the problem I was having with "D-Day 2 PoC" that was discussed with @Panther above. 'mapName' "D-Day_2_PoC" is not the same as "D-Day-2-PoC". Because the 'mapName' was wrong "D-Day 2 PoC" would not load into 2.5. Once corrected, it works.
If "World War I 1914 Improved And Tournament Rules" is installed using 2.7, because it automatically unzips files, everything is installed under "world_war_i_1914_improved_and_tournament_rules", and sub directory is removed. This means that map.yml 'map_name' should be changed to reflect this.
Funny thing, if 2.7 is used for installation and 'mapName' in both xmls is changed to "world_war_i_1914_improved_and_tournament_rules" then the map plays using 2.5. This does not work when installing using 2.5 because 2.5 uses the zip file which contains the double directory.
In essence what I'm saying to make this 2.7.1 the map.yml should still need to be changed. To be 2.5.2 the double directory would need to be removed, map.yml would need changing and both xml's 'mapName' would need changing.

                        @RogerCooper has world-war-i-1914-improved-main but this also has a map.yml 'map_name' and xml's 'mapName' problem.

As always, trying to be helpful.

                        Cheers...
