          @wirkey Yeah, interesting. Still figuring out all the rules for this game. Also not only did I not realize you could move from contested sea to enemy sea, I didn't realize Philadelphia touched the SZ so double whammy. Live and learn.

          The reasons you cannot move from contested to contested on land but you can do it on sea are that (almost sure) on sea these are the rules relative to having ships placed under you by your opponent, while the land behaviour is for supporting the (never actually developed) new "official" WWI game, that came out 4 years ago.
          Personally, I would have suggested having two properties for setting this behaviour on land and sea, respectively, rather than having two different fixed behaviours that you have virtually no way to see but by playing it out, but Veqryn didn't want to have any properties about this, as being something that matters only for very few games (not that he asked me or anyone; he just said no properties).
          Again, almost sure about what I'm saying; it remains weird that the sea works one way and the land works the opposite way, without properties or anything letting you know. I don't believe it is even explained anywhere about this thing or the reasons for it; I guess only Veqryn could add an official explanation to pos2, if he remembers.

          I've tried this game, but there are some things I'm too unconfortable with.

            @cernel Well, for Civil War, I think its the right settings to have it the way it is and if there were properties I would vote to have it work the way it does. As otherwise land units could just stream past the main lines and naval needs to be able to place and move so that 1 cheap ship can't block a port. Probably would be nice to add to the game notes since its a rarely used behavior but not a big deal after you experience it once. If a map maker planned to create a quality map where they felt strongly about the contested movement working differently then it shouldn't be too hard to add but no reason to add properties that no one plans to use.

              @redrum I think how it works is preferable and I'm thinking that I'm fine with it for what I want to do. The only real issue is that it is something "nobody" knows but by trying it out, and "nobody" knows if it is something wanted and reliable to be kept as it is.
              Actually, I've not tested it, recently or right now, but if nothing has changed, the limit would be that you can't directly move from a hostile land territory into an enemy owned land territory; yet, you can move into a hostile land territory, if not enemy owned, that, in case of a 1v1 game without Neutral only, would mean your territory with enemy units in it (multiple movement units may indirectly move from a hostile land territory into an enemy owned land territory, by stepping into a friendly land territory in between) (a territory is hostile towards a player when the current owner of it or any of the units in it are in a War relationship with the player, no matter the ownership).
              You should double check it yourself if what I'm saying is right; as I've not tested it now or on the map you are playing, but what I'm saying is that the limit is from hostile to enemy owned, not generally hostile to hostile, if I tested correctly and nothing has changed thereafter. Meaning that, at least back when I tested it, it was enough to be hostile on the starting point, not necessarily enemy owned, but it needed to be enemy owned, not only hostile, on the ending point, instead, and for land only, not sea.
              Mainly I think it is not really good that it is not documented anywhere; as if you, as a mapmaker, want to make a map, are unsure if the current behaviour is going to be kept as being supported or it just happens to work like that or what.
              I think I'm actually fine with the default current behaviour, as being preferable.
              Not much point writing it down on this of any map if nobody knows if what it is is what is going to be kept or it is liable to be changed at any moment.

                              @wirkey edit in the Atlantic: i assumed you would make a hit in the 2nd round in NC SZ, killing my ironclad. The other ironclad stays in Sargasso Sea. Only difference would be 2 more industry for me, but i guess we can ignore that.

                                  @wirkey Whoa. Ok, so trying to follow things 🙂

                                  I guess the initial set of rolls were accidental? And you just want to ignore those? I'm ok with that, not ideal to throw dice and redo but I understand if you had meant to just be testing moves locally.

                                  So the edit is you wanted to only attack with 1 ironclad and 1 battleship instead of 2 ironclads and 1 battleship in the NC SZ? Only issue with that is that you don't have 100% win chance if you only attack with those 2 ships instead of the 3 as you don't have the guaranteed hit in the first or second round (11/12). Maybe better to just redo the move and re-roll the NC SZ battle?
