The current run count default for dice is 200, in the Odds Calculator.
I think it should be increased to 1000 or at least 500, as at 200 the risk of having significantly unreliable results it too big and I don't believe the time gain of 200 matters that much.

@cernel I cannot change my vote any longer, but I now actually use 10,000 run count default because 1,000 can rarely cause the result to be a few percentage points off and I prefer not taking the chance.

So now I would suggest 10,000 for regular dice and 1,000 for low luck as default values.

@cernel I suspect there needs to be different defaults depending on map and whether playing single player or multi. I'm also skeptical that statistically you will get that many differences running more than 1000 iterations. Another consideration, new players may not yet know to increase/decrease the run count and having a very slow running calc could discourage them from playing (they may think that it's all just slow). Furthermore, some systems are much slower than others, having too high an iteration count by default would make those systems unplayable by default. Hence, there is certainly a lowest common denominator aspect that is occurring here.

@lafayette I surmise that could be addressed by having the number of simulations done showing as they are done (which would also give information about how much you have left to wait). That way, the player can hit "stop" anytime he or she thinks enough simulations have already been run through (the battle-simulator gives the results with the number of simulations rolled until you stopped it).

@cernel Having a proper cancel on the wait dialog would be a benefit. The fact it is modal and not cancellable is very risky and has caused a number of deadlocks (basically if any process it is waiting on crashes, it sits forever).

It's not trivial to do that, but would be highly desirable. I agree.
