Roger's Scenario Thread
-
Name Small Balanced 2 Player sidebyside
Description Symmetrical struggle over an island
link

Good Points- Fast puzzle-like game, more interesting than it looks.
**Bad Points
- Limited options
- AI spends the large bid badly, human players should save bid or reduce it.
-
Name Classic: Iron Blitz 1939B RussiaInTheAxis
Description Classic game with Russa/Germany vs UK/Japan/USA

linkGood Points
- Fast-playing, straightforward
- Different strategic situation
Bad Points
- Probably a draw with good play on both sides (but an interesting puzzle to beat the AI controlling 1 country)
-
Name Global 40 House Rules
Description The Global 40 with a bunch of house rules
link

Good Points
- China is more of opponent because of the guerilla rule
- Destroyer/submarines have a more interesting interaction
- Some interesting new units
Bad Points
- The rules don't do much to resolve the balance issues
- Some of the new stuff is hard for the AI to handle
-
Name Domination 1914 NML Navalland

link

Good Points

- AI has some problems, especially with playing the Americans
- Many odd territory values and placements
-
Name 1914-COW-Empires
Description World War 1 In Europe with historical troop strengths and maintenance costs
link

Good Points
- Fast-playing
- Historical economic & military values
Bad Points
- Slow-moving units lack dynamism
- No victory conditions
-
Name NWO Vichy 1941
Description World War II in Europe on the New World Order with Canada & Vichy France as separate nations
link

Good Points
- AI plays reasonably well & fast
- Well-balanced
Bad Points
- None
-
Name Star Wars: Galactic War
Description Space & Ground Warfare in the Star Wars Galaxy
link

Good Points
- Lots of evocative Star Wars units
Bad Points
- It is hard to accomplish anything
Note: "Worlds are islands, Space is a sea" does not work well. The slow speeds of ships and the difficulties of conquering worlds makes the game rather slow. Ships in Star Wars should travel at the speed-of-plot, not 2 areas a turn.
Another way space opera could be handled is by making all of space 'land' with bonuses/penalties for ground/space units based upon domain (like in the Civ games)
-
Name Big World: 1942 - Logistics Mod (No Supply Lines)
Description Big World map with land & air transports
link

Good Points
- Relative low unit density
Bad Points
- The AI can be a bit odd
-
Name World War II v3 1941
Description TripleA's version of the AA50 game, 1941 scenario
linkGood Points
- Fast-moving game with reasonable unit density
Bad Points
- Favors the Axis, but not so much that the Allies have no chance
Note: This is my favorite version in face to face play. I am looking forward to playing in the same room as other people soon.
-
Name AA42-2 Military Symbols
Description AA42-2 using standard NATO symbols instead of representational icons
link

Good Points
- No art skill required to create new unit types
Bad Points
- Takes a little getting used to, especially for ships
-
Name Camp David: 1948 Arab-Israeli War
Description The 1948 Arab-Israeli War with a standard unit set
link

Good Points
- Asymmetrical Situation
- Easy to understand rules set
Bad Points
- Poor historical feel for this largely attritional war
- No victory conditions
Note: Favors the Arabs. Take all 3 Israeli commands against the AI for an interesting game.

@RogerCooper If this map is only about changing the skin, it should be a map-skin, instead. Just delete the "games" folder and add "-military_symbols_skin" at the end of the map name.
I'm saying "if" because I'm not seeing where I am supposed to click to download it.
Nice to see the actual State flags, by the way.
-
@Cernel I'm guessing this is a coincidence as i just updated these maps at git.
-

- The usual historical problems of A&A, especially an overly powerful Japan
-

- The AI has problems with some of the rules
-
@RogerCooper Curious... Is this G 40 House rules different from the G 40 House rules you reviewed like 6 posts ago?
-
@Hepps It may be the same. I maintain a long list of all scenarios and playable nations and play them at random, deleting the entry after play. Sometimes I play a scenario again with a different nation. A nice thing about TripleA is playing the same game with a different nation makes a different experience.
In addition, there is Global 40 and a Global 1940 scenario.

The Global map really beaten to death by moddings.
