Crazy Europe: House of Habsburg
-
I guess no rush if not ready for Saturday, since Easter Sunday will not be good for me anyways. But look forward to the following weekend.
On sea colors. I think a subtle color difference is only needed. Then Sweden might not blend as much either.
-
Update, all basic files are complete, reliefs are almost complete and XML work is under way.
-
This map is almost ready to play, I have only one problem. I want to set unitProduction different from production (a territory would have 3 income but only be able to place 1 unit via factory)
Based on the descriptions within the PoS 2 XML, it should be a very simple process. However, after trying numerous combinations, the unitProduction options appears to do nothing. Can anyone point out what I'm missing?
-
@crazyg When options are ineffective, that probably means they are enabled by a property you don't have true.
In this case, "Damage From Bombing Done To Units Instead Of Territories", if nothing has changed in the last 5 years and I recall it correctly (haven't tested atm).Practically, those things work only for v3 style production. You cannot have them for Classic or Revised, sadly.
Again, I'm just going with memory.
-
@crazyg Can't wait to see the entire thing relaunched with all the new features and ideas.
-
@CrazyG @Cernel Yes, I think Cernel is right. I had to use this option in the Star Trek map to get limited production to work, even though there is no bombing of any kind in the map. Here is an old thread: http://tripleadev.1671093.n2.nabble.com/Allow-unlimited-number-of-placements-at-factory-td7590224.html#a7590253
-
It was the bombing property, thanks everyone.
New version is available for download. There are a lot of changes made for this update. The map is now beautiful thanks to Hepps. There have also been some territory changes to better normalize movement.
- More cities and units
- All units now have maintenance costs of 1 per turn
- Incomes are generally slightly higher to compensate for maintenance, but overall you should be building fewer units that before
- I changed the number of units you can place at a city. A territory needs at least 3 income to place 1 unit, at least 6 to place 2 units, and at least 9 to place 3 units.
- There may be some missing connections. Please let me know if you find any. The map is intended to be played with all visible connections
Have fun guys!

@crazyg ? The latest commit of house_of_habsburg is 25 days ago. I believe what I got is still the old one.
Surprised of the upkeep 1 addition, and I'm sure you know I'm hyped for that.
I wish there would be a property to limit max units number so that their total upkeeps never exceed the player's production of those resources, to avoid holding income to buy more than you can upkeep. Either this or something obliging you to remove excessive units you cannot upkeep.
-
@cernel
Practically speaking, you can't really reach a situation where you have more unit upkeep than income on this map, unless you are only holding 1-2 territories so its probably a loss anyways. I agree though, the current maintenance features are lackingI tested the download, it hasn't changed, you are right. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong but I'll try to recommit this evening
-
@crazyg What a tease!
-
I recommited the changes, it downloaded successfully for me. Let me know if you guys try and it works
-
@crazyg Guess I have to make some new PU markers.
You used the original big PU markers as well. I thought you would have used the smaller and semi transparent ones I had sent you.
-
@CrazyG @Hepps The map looks very nice.
@hepps I actually think that here non-transparent ones may fit better.
How about having this colour, for Sweden, instead (just a personal preference; nevermind if current is generally preferred):
66cccc
I've kept the same hue, since, otherwise, the units pictures may have to be recolourised.
Also, I surely advise having in the folder all the components, of the composite unit images (namely, here, relevantly only the "crossed sword" picture in the "Recruit" units), so that anybody that wants to make a new set, with a new colourisation (as well as change the colourisation for the current players), can do it handily (you would paste that component in the image after having colourised, I assume).
-
@crazyg Seems as though the Cities valued a 3 PU are not able to place a single unit (as I believe was your intention).
-
@crazyg Also, having the impassable territories drawn in the relief implies that you cannot actually define them, via the xml. Of course, that is known, as well as that effect would not be achievable via text setting only, so it is a trade off between beauty and versatility (that may be solved here if a developer would allow for patterns to be called and loaded, from a "patterns" folder).
For example, Napoleonic Empires or World At War (as well as most maps) allow to freely redefine what territories are impassable, since it is just a colour, like whatever ownership.
Depends if @CrazyGerman is planning to ever redefine what territories are impassable (he cannot), or not at all. -
@cernel sure they can be redefined. The reliefs would simply need to be changed.
Not everything needs to be designed so that others can just re-use some one else' work to change it at their whim. A map can be purpose designed for its intended use... nothing more... nothing less.

@crazyg Bunch of weird connections in the center of the map.
Bulgaria 09 incorrectly connects to Bulgaria 12
Bulgaria 09 incorrectly connects to Romania 11
Bulgaria 13 incorrectly connects to Serbia 04
Bulgaria 13 incorrectly connects to Serbia 03
Just what I saw while running a turn 1 test.

From the sounds of your description. I would think you did want a 3 pu territory to build 1 unit, but they can not as @Hepps mentioned above.
Also maybe add that bit to game notes. I think that concept will be cool since it will forces troop level conservation to prevent being overwhelmed by enemy. Hopefully this dynamic has a positive impact.
Personally I would prefer the semi transparent pu markers. Maybe put them in corners of territories too (but a lot of work). A version without the wings might be nice too.
Just a side note the map looks great zoomed in. But for those who like to play zoomed out further. I suggest checking "show map blends" in addition to "show map details". This setting will give cleaner looking borders from a zoomed out perspective, imo.
-
I totally just forgot to update the PU markers.
It is a mistake that you cannot place in territories with 3.
I used the old connections, I fixed a bunch of them evidently I missed some of our Bulgaria changes.
Will work on another update

@crazyg So, you already said that Rhodes is "Italian" for gameplay reasons, but since you now have the Cyclades, maybe you can make the Cyclades Italian and Rhodes Ottoman (currently it is the other way round), since the Cyclades were mostly "Italian" and Rhodes is closely in the same area anyways?
