Is "Also Post after Combat Move" a commonly used PbF/PbEM Feature?
-
Asking as a PbF/PbEM Noob:
From my understanding PbF/PbEM work as follow:
You play a turn as your nation(s) and once your done with your turn(s) you send the savegame over to your opponent, who then does the exact same thing.
Why exactly would it make sense to also post the savegame after the combat move?
The turn summary and the "turn end" savegame should already provide enough information.
Are there perhaps any maps that require this feature for whatever reason? -
@RoiEX This is used and generally a nice option to have. The reason is so that players have to post their final combat moves before rolling dice so they can't change combat moves after say rolling 1 battle by saving/loading.

@redrum Thanks for the clarification, this makes sense!

@RoiEX @redrum In some scenarios (such as Global 1940) it is absolutely necessary to see Combat Moves before any dice are rolled, as the attacker needs to know about any scramble decisions from his opponent. Also it often prepares OOL decisions for special battles. Posting the Combat Moves then prevents from redundantly pointing out those moves.
-
@RoiEX Wouldn't it be more sensible to rather post before Conduct Combat, so that the phases are split the same way also for games (like NWO etc.) having Combat Move before Purchase? More in general, since the phase order is (luckily) not hardcoded, I think where this intermediate posting happens should be freely customizable inside the game's xml, and the option name should tell when it happens (probably scarcely important, tho).

It should probably be changed both in name and potentially functionality to be "Post Before Conducting Combat" or "Post Before Battles". Generally, you want to post right before needing scrambles/OOL and to ensure folks aren't reloading to change anything based on battles results. Some maps as @Cernel mentions have purchase after combat move or other ordering of phases.

@redrum @RoiEX @Cernel Just one more aspect in this context: By the rules scrambling is the very last action happening during Combat Move Phase. So whenever combat moves will be posted in the future, there must always be room for the scrambling move before any dice are rolled. Also rocket attacks need to be kept out of the Combat Move Phase and moved to the Conduct Combat Phase instead.
