Houserules/mods for fun

Hi
I am new here and find the map making process quite daunting. I want to alter an existing map, i.e create a mod, and try to play the mod. Now, I have downloaded the code for the map and found the file I want to modify. But how do I load the modified map into TripleA? Do I have to upload it to GitHub and make available for everyone or is there any easier method to try it out?
Thanks

@Griito
No you do not have to upload to GitHub. Just include you changes in the map folder. You should be able to test your mod then. I find it easer if the map folder is un-zipped. I also take the '-master' off the un-zipped folder, and relocate the original downloaded zipped file.Hope this helps.
Cheers...

Moved to mapmaking.
You can find information on all the matters you are asking for (that is basically everything mapmaking related). Here are two links (not enough, but a good starting point):

Thanks. You are correct, that works fine.
