Image Icons

TripleA is packaged with a number of default image icons which can be found here: https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/tree/master/assets.
I'd like to use this thread to discuss/improve those which are included in the engine. The following are some of the suggested 20x20 resource icons to add as default options to the engine. Goal is to provide a base set of resource icons but map makers can always override with their own. Feedback welcome!

Given that I'm starting to finally display resource icons, I thought it would be good to revisit at least the 2 which are displayed in many maps:
- PUs - seems lower quality than many of the others?
- techTokens - I like the beaker but maybe a different color (less neon green)? Blue?
- PUs - seems lower quality than many of the others?

@redrum Yup. Some improvements are definitely possible. I shall share some of the back-up designs I have already worked on in anticipation of this very eventuality.

@redrum Question... are we 100% set with 24 x 24 pixels?

@hepps Not sure. That appears the size they are at the moment but not really sure why. That seems to be about the size they'd need to be in order to fit in the bottom bar. I'm open to considering making them larger or smaller if there is a good reason.

@redrum the reason I asked is because the national flags that we put in the far right bottom corner are 32 x 32. Since your new feature uses that same bar across the bottom of the window.... I just thought we could use images up to 32x 32. I know it doesn't seem like a lot of a difference.... but it really does improve the potential quality of the images we can create.

@hepps Good point. Though I might argue the flags would actually look better as 24x24 to give a bit of space around it as it looks squished. Thoughts?
Images look good though maybe a lighter blue for the tech beaker?

@redrum Personally I prefer the larger. Since those additional 6 pixels in height allow for much better images.

@hepps I'm open to testing it out with both 24x24 and 32x32 versions. You can actually do it right now with the latest pre-release. It shouldn't restrict image sizes.

@general_zod While I am a big proponent of saving space... the idea of shrinking the images means it would break every existing map in the repository. Every last map would have to have its flags redone.
that was why I was asking if we could use all of the available space we are already using.

@hepps I'm not proposing it be shrunk in the assets folder. Just wondering if a map can be customized with their own images and save space for the map itself.

Not sure exactly how the height of the bar is handled. You can try adding smaller or larger flags to see what happens.

@redrum just checked out the new icon bar, looks cool. Nice job, however I see saved games don't work on it. Are you going to have two tripleas while you transition to the new one ?
