@beelee Beelee, he's on the same TripleA version as me 2.7.15256 which I have been using for quite awhile without problems. I think the issue is the map version. I am on 2.5.2 but he may be on 2.5.1. TripleA is a real pain to set up when first getting started so to make it easier, if we find out what map version JC is using, I can just play the game with him on his map version

@beelee His screen shot shows that he is on G40 Expansion UHD Boxes so I don't think that's the issue either

I suggest using the latest map version. It's not that difficult to download.

Start a local game and let us know what map version it is. It will tell you on the first prompt.

As you can see in the above it is version 2.52

I am CLUELESS as to what to do...

Installed the latest tripleA version 2.7.14962

Tried to uninstall the Global 40 Expansion UHD (what a silly name. And what is this UHD thing mean?) and triplea said I removed it, but then said I had it, but then said I did not, blah blah ... just wacky behavior and I was unable to find any way to download the Global 40 UHD Boxes

I am on a Mac and this game has worked find for me in the past but now I cannot even find anything that allows me to install the game/map...

@johnnycat That’s wise. I am pretty sure Windows is not necessary for me to kick around some American GI’s in a game of G40. Hah!

It seems clear that I do not have the latest map and do not know how to get it since the usual way, via the tripleA program, does not seem to find it.

So is there some manual way to install the correct map? On a Mac I should add...

UHD stands for "Ultra High Definition" I think. Black Elk made it for bigger monitors or 5g or idk about all the graphic stuff.

Mac's have historically been problematic with triplea engine.

I will post a step by step here after a bit

@johnnycat If I understand correctly, you were able to do a test game against yourself on your Mac. So that means the map version you were using for that test game had no issues with your Mac. Unless I am missing something.

Uggh that was a brutal football game but the whiners won Had an unexpected college basketball game before that.

So, I think most likey you and Trout have a different "map" version of the game. As I stated above "2.52" is the latest.

Ahh I just looked at your picture again. It says you have 2.52 in the Change Log.

I am going to start a game for us and we will see if we can get it to work

I can load various game saves of my own so the issue seems to be related to when I load this save of our first turn from @Trout

But Trout just saved his first turn as normal... Also I logged a bug fix as you can see

You are reporting on an error with version 2.7.14962. The cause of this error, ERROR o.t.game.client.HeadedGameRunner - null java.lang.NullPointerException: null. This is a null value stored in the saved game header and has already rectify. This may make some newer version save incompatibility with older versions. This 'save incompatibility' does not happen all the time. @Trout is using 2.7.15256, you @beelee are using 2.7.14962. Ask @beelee if he can open the save game, I could not using 2.7.14962. I was able to use 2.7.15025 and load @Trout's da2aa41c-2e53-4842-b48e-19ad613c9a5a-exp-game-1-jc-g1.tsvg saved game.
Even though a higher version can open a lower version save, the reverse may not hold true.

P.S. A 2.7.15025 save was still incapnot work able with 2.7.14962, so reposting a save will not help. Everyone needs to be on the same map version because the saved game contains a lot of map specific information and can cause a lot of incapability issues. Also 2.7 higher 15026 may not work with lower versions. Although this issue is kind of hit or miss.

It was this saved game, da2aa41c-2e53-4842-b48e-19ad613c9a5a-exp-game-1-jc-g1.tsvg, from @Trout that has been the bane of my past few days. It will not work with 2.7.15278 because of an 'any' problem, won't work with 2.7.14962 because of a 'null' in the save file header.
Please, please... help @JohnnyCat, get this game rolling. Give a guy (me) a break
