Have you ever thought of designing a TWW game themed "spring 1942"? I suppose that can make the Pacific islands area more playable. And also neutrality between USSR and Japan... Curious to know your opinion...
-
@oigroig78 We took December 41 since it allowed for so many dynamic opening moves....
Pearl Harbour
Battle of Java Sea
Battle of TobrukPushing the date back further felt like it deprived the game of so many critical moments.
The Pacific is already very dynamic and playable.
There has always been a great deal of discussion about Japan and Russia's neutrality.... but seeing as the players can make that decision right at the start of the game.... then we always felt it made more sense to leave it open.... if they choose not to attack each other then so be it. But since the "peace" in the Far East was really just the lack of interest of either side to pursue hostilities... this set up has always felt fine from a game play perspective. We discussed it a couple times but never action'd it.
I am not planning on revisiting it since 2.7.7.2 is now a complete work. I am not planning on adding or changing anything further.
I have developed the new 2.8 to test some features and dynamics that are going to be part of Global Dominance. And for that game the Russian-Japanese relationship will be more formally addressed.
-
@hepps I'd be willing to make a vanilla of tww someday. As long as hepps gives his blessing.
-
@general_zod that would be way cool. Probably would help grow the player base. I've checked it out a bit but there's so much going on it's overwhelming to me.
of course i'm intellectually challenged so...

@beelee lol

For newer players it might be a good idea to post a default tech order for each country. Something like
Japan
- Special Warfare
- Improved Destroyers (free tech if playing with national advantages)
- Improved Special Warfare
- Improved fighters
(I don't claim this to be a perfect plan, but its good enough to get a new player going). After that point they can probably make their own decisions, but seeing it clearly stated that technology X needs to go first or second should help speed up their learning.
The other thing I'd recommend for new players is researching production early and often. Having more material than you want or need lets you experiment a little bit.
-
@crazyg Yeah, I have a technology priorities section already for China and plan to have that for each nation
-
@redrum don't write strategy guides, you can do that during work. Play the game!
-
@wirkey Just trying to teach you how to play
-
@redrum Ooooohhhhh Snap!
-
@redrum TouchΓ©. China doesn't help me much, though.
-
@wirkey Figure it was best to start with the easiest nation to avoid overwhelming you

One suggestion for future release of this beautiful game. Why not adding troops for desert battles? We have mountain and forest terrains and ski troops.... why not consider sand troops. This could make Africa campaign more intriguing. I hope this could be an idea.
-
@oigroig78 Anything is possible.
In TWW we included unit types based on the terrain... Alpine for mountains, Marine for sea.
The desert terrain never made the cut for the game. But I have it on good authority that a new release might just include desert.
-
@hepps LOL and who would have told you that
-
@prastle I am not at liberty to divulge my sources.... suffice it to say it is someone very close to me.
