Revisiting an old project
-
Years ago I had started to work on improving the looks of 270 BC.
So when I couldn't sleep last night... I took up the mantle again after watching a pretty epic match.
So far Egypt is done. If insomnia hits again... Triple A wins.

WOOT! WOOT!

@Hepps Looks sweet, but two important corrections I advise:
- I definitely suggest no cities having the flag/roundel. It is really not needed, as they can't move and it looks redundant, and it is especially not ok if it is lower right while the other flags are upper left, as it may get confusing in crowded situations.
- Have all flags in exactly the same relative positions, not some right and some left.
In general, when you see a flag, you need to be sure that the image the flag is referring to is always about there, otherwise the flags are not as helping. My suggestion is to keep all the flags upper left, as it is in current, which here means moving the flag of that spearman on the left, as it is in the one in current.

You put roundels on the cities in the map.
I have one good nerve... and you're standing right on it.
-
@Hepps I'm not strongly against a roundel for cities, but I'm strongly against it being not in the same relative position as any other roundels (in this case, all upper-left, not most upper-left but the city lower-right and the spearman upper-right). When one see that roundel in the city, if all others would be upper-left, you would be induced to think it belonging to a unit lower right to the city image.
-
@Cernel Except that the unit below it already has a roundel.
I think I remember why I stopped do these types of things.
-
@Hepps The matter is not misunderstanding what is what upon looking at it attentively; the matter is where the eye falls. It is the easiest if all flags are exactly in the same relative position to the respective images (like in current, them being all upper-left), thus I would say it should be a must it being so (as it is in current).
Having flags to tell ownerships already implies looking at two different elements for a same unit, which is itself inferior to something like the traditional mono-colour units, in which you could look only at the single units, to know everything you need.
Of course, talking personally. Would be interesting if and how many other people believes that all flags being in the same relative position to the image is preferable or not, aside from the units ownerships being beyond doubt, which is not what I was contesting. -
@Hepps Cool. 270BC could definitely use some Hepps image love.
-
@Hepps The Barbarian Hordes...
-
To clarify; what I meant is that I was not meaning that (as long as the placement is well made) there is the problem of not being able to tell ownerships, but just my personal preference in all flags being in the same relative position to the images, as I feel this reduces the matter of looking at two things to know one, and I would be interested if anyone else has the same perception (might be just about me).
So now I'm mostly curious if anybody else thinks that all flags being in the same relative position to the images, at least for a same alliance, is so important as I personally do?
-
@Hepps Also, my preference is the neutrals having no flags (as in current). But, again, I'd go with what most prefer; this would be just my vote.
-
@Cernel as we learned over the years with my stupid color blindness ... I would vote roundels for all. Then I have no excuse for making stupid mistakes just my 2 cents worth. Hopefully it doesn't cause clutter.
-
@prastle Sorry forgot the Axemen.
And here is the revised revised Egyptians.
-
@Hepps hides the ter value but gd stuff
-
@prastle Where do you live? Cause if its not too far... I'm going to come over there right now and donkey punch you.
Here's the Greeks for now.
-
@Hepps gigglez im a farm boy and a truck mechanic give er guessing within 2.5 hrs of u or less. but even if ya did id still crack a Kieths and enjoy the bonfire.. either way im just happy with clear units
-
@Hepps How about opening a poll on the matter of the Neutral units having a flag or not?
-
This looks great. A bit like 3D. Nice work. And it is much better with the rounders in the same corner.
What type of units do "neutral" have in this map? Do they have access to every unit type of the map, so that a mod maker can setup up various scenarios? If they have rounders, then it could just be a white one, maybe -
@Frostion the barbarian hordes are the neutrals
-
@Frostion The Neutral are normal neutrals: the null player. And, no, they have access only to a few units, some of them redundant (only the defence value matters, thus it is like they have only 3 units, at defence 1, 2 and 3). It is the same for my variants, 270BC Cernel Variant and 270BC 40%, as well as Rome Total War, but not for Total Ancient War.
