Two factor authentification
-
Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
unfortunately I can't login with my main account "wirkey" as the two factor authentification is not working. Neither by google authenticator nor by back up code. Not sure what I should do.
-
@wirkey2 @Panther the only one I know of that might help

Why is he/she required two factor authentication in the first place? He/she is not an admin, isn't he/she?
I don't have to do it, and I understood that only the admins do. Or what?
-
It is only mandatory for admins. But as 2FA is security standard on many platforms it does perfectly make sense to enable 2FA for everybody.
And this forum allows to enable 2FA for everybody.

@wirkey2
Are you using Google Authenticator? In that case please perform code time correction to be found in the settings of the Auth-app and try again.
On any other Auth-app find a similar process and execute it.In case the error persists please let me know. We'll resolve that quickly.

tried that, didn't work.
And it's getting even worse. Once I try to login with "wirkey" I can't logout and if I try to reload the page it will come back to the authenfication site. Can't login with "wirkey2" until I delete my cookies. -
@wirkey2
Best idea is likely to clear your browser cache before you log in again.
I'll send you a PM to resolve your 2FA issue.

Why not just disabling this thing for everyone who is not an admin? What's the worst thing which can happen?
-
Because it is a service. I for sure would be happy to enable 2FA - even if I were not an admin.
Of course every (non-admin) user is free to enable or disable 2FA.Personally I use 2FA wherever I can. It's an online account security standard.
I see that many people don't care much about online security choosing absurdly simple passwords identically for many services for example or ignoring the benefits of 2FA.
But those who do care have the chance to secure their login the best way that is offered, what on this forum includes optional 2FA.

Account stealing and impersonation. Not only on this forum but on maybe other online services, too. Unfortunately some people tend to use the same username/password combination for different online services.
Everyone who makes his account vulnerable by choosing weak passwords is at risk. "Password strength" is a widely discussed topic.
2FA helps to further reduce/minimize this risk. -
@panther hi folks, same problem again. Got a new phone and can't authentificate.
-
When you have a new phone you need to transfer the auth-details from your old to the new phone.
Google Auth has a routine for that. Anyway, let's do the same procedure as last time.
