I dug up some of Elk's faces. Should be able to dig a few out for Air and Naval Commander. I'm not sure who they all are. We discussed here a little bit https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/40741/names-to-faces

OK the rewrite is going pretty good. Surprisingly to me. so shouldn't take as long as I thought. I'm testing as I go but not super extensively.

So gameplay will be the true test. Anyway, it should be sooner than later.

So sadly my excitement was mispalced. The new "Naval Commanders" work fine but that is because none of the Units inside the Task Force are supported.

When you have a unit that supports another one and itself is supported by the "Commander", triplea will default to the most potent Attack or defense factor of the unit without considering the support boost.

Not 100% sure on this but that's what testing seems to show. This is what I also first encountered when originally doing the xml. That's why we have separate Obersts and Commisars and now Air Commanders.

So e.g. Air Commander and 2 Ftrs and a Tac attack together. The AC gets 2 rolls, that is now hardwired in unitAttachment, and one of the Ftrs or Tac gets a boost.

What happens is, one of the Ftrs or Tac gets an additional die roll at it's Attack value of 3. What should happen is the Tac gets boosted by the Tac to Attack 4, which is correct, but the additional die roll goes to a Ftr or possibly the Tac, instead of giving the boosted Tac to Attack 4 at 2 rolls.

So that's a triplea engine limitation and unless the code is rewritten to allow for that, triplea can't do it.

Maybe wc want's to go big and fork it from triplea adding that capabillity Idk but if he did, we could all just use that version

So close yet so far.

When selecting units for support first is power, attack or defense, depending, next is alphabetical. I.e. Firs before Tacs. To test this change the Ftr to Tac support to a Tac to Ftr. Now try the Cmd with 2 Ftrs and 1 Tac.

Can one unit support another with the supported unit being ...well actually the alphabetical thing, as when they support or are supported by the supporting unit.

I want one active unit that gives bounus rolls/attack and defense bonus increase, to the most powerful unit it can for the 2 roll bonus.

Doesn't do it right now.

I will try some more with your latest info. The alphabetical has me uncertain though. In the support attachment or unit list ? Unit attachment ?

OK it's starting to sink in I think. It's how I have them listed in the supportAttachment. Actually that's not alphabetical though.

Well yea ... I'll post what I have. Idusted it but it's still in the save folder

To the best of my knowledge, G40 does have Ftrs supporting Tacs, but does not have that extra Cmd layer.

I was only suggesting this as a test, to show that support is ordered alphabetically, not to use in your map.

Hopefully understanding how support is done might help in designing them.

The problem I see with switching the Ftr Tac support is that Tks also support the Tac. The tactical_bomber could be renamed to bomber_tactical but would require renaming all the icons.

Another stupid idea would be to ask a developer to add TUV as the second sort. So, first would be attack/defense power, depending, next would be TUV, then last alphabetical.

Again, dumb thoughts from the nosebleed section.
