Google mail with TripleA issues (was: New Play By Forum Game)

There is a problem with Node-BB that makes PBF difficult at least for some players (like me). As well as a problem with MARTI (see here that results in dice mails being suppressed by the email service (among others by Gmail). And Gmail also doesn't allow automatic posts from the client anymore, so if PBF doesn't work for you you have to do PBEM with a manual exchange of savegames (as described here in point 17 (b)).

Right on i made a proton email and it worked in seconds. F google. They didn't work at all.

See if I can figure this out yet again and get a game going

Huge problems not only on A&A .org, that 's correct, unfortunately.

I recommend to everyone not to waste their time trying to run TripleA PBEM sending with Google.

Google is completely going to stop to allow sending mails with "less secure" third party apps (such as the current TripleA PBEM implementation).

In this context the option to "allow less secure apps" in your Google account security settings will no longer be supported/offered.

Maybe it is only a question of time until other mail providers will eventually follow and raise their security demands.

As a consequence Triple A currently is not only broken for PBF, but for PBEM (at least with Google mails and maybe other mail services), too.

Also all of this is unrelated to receiving mails sent out by Marti.

@panther well that's a major bummer. PBF seems like the best offering for people to play with triplea other than lobby.

I guess those are the only two lol.

@beelee Yeah my understanding is there are 2 major problems right now:

PBF - Unable to post to A&A.org anymore because the version of the forum was upgraded and no longer compatible with the current version of TripleA. I believe the fix has already been submitted and merged into TripleA code base (I haven't personally tested it) but it hasn't been released yet.
PBEM - Email providers especially google are increasing security requirements making a third party application like TripleA have more requirements in order to send emails. I'm not sure how many folks are already experiencing issues vs how much this will be more of a future problem.

there has been an attempt that didn't resolve the issue.

It looks like every user using GMail addresses is affected right now.

@panther Ah I see. I just submitted a new PR to address the additional error you encountered with PBF: https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/pull/10206. Once that is merged, I'd appreciate if you can test again. @ everyone: This fixes a PBF issue.

The issues concerning the use of GMail / MARTI are still unresolved.

@panther Does this mean, that PBF is possible again with the newest pre-release? If so is there still an issue with loading maps on pre-release versions of the client?
