How do I Delete a PBF Game ?
-
I see I can start a new one on the same topic/thread ? idk what it's called : ), although haven't tried with a map update. Don't want to overachieve and have some memory/storage thingy happen. I actually don't know much about that : )
Anyway, just wondering if I should delete before starting new game.

@beelee You can play all your games in one game thread, as the thread serves only as place to post your moves. TripleA only needs the thread-id to save whatever is sent to that thread. So this is unrelated to map versions. Of course it is not very comfortable to do so and chances are that you lose the overview over your games. Usually you open a thread per game.
The idea to delete threads/topics once a game is over to save some space/storage is a valid one, as this would prevent from server/storage issues, once the storage is "full". I remember discussions about how to deal with storage here and there.
But: Deleting a thread would not delete the savegames that are uploaded, so for this purpose another solution would be needed.
Also a user can only delete his own postings, and never a complete thread. For this purpose you would need someone with elevated privileges (mod or admin). In any case - when other users have posted to your game thread - how to deal with that?Just some thoughts to give you some insight on this topic

@Panther Thanks for the reply.
yea said need admin to delete or something as. Just didn't want to spam out with forum games while trying to figure out how it all works : )
So as many games as one wants : )

@Panther can you describe the game id system more since I have not used it? I am wondering if this could be used for the ladder and how to implement it to live games?
-
@prastle The thread ID is provided by either this forum or the A&A forum and uniquely identifies that thread within that forum (wouldn't be unique across both). So for example this PBF game: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/1118. The thread ID generated by the forum is 1118 and that is what you input into TripleA to identify that thread. TripleA then uses that to know where to post the summary/save games. If you used PBF for the ladder then you could use that as a unique ID for the game. If you wanted to use it for live games, you'd need people to create a new thread here first then they could use that as their ID and say post their save game through TripleA or manually to that thread.

@prastle What do you mean?
We're simply working on a newer MARTI, the dice server doesn't know anything about the games, it just generates random numbers with a signature and timestamp.
The client is simply asking the configured dice server for random numbers and then posting the moves. MARTI has nothing to do with the post.@Panther I'm not sure about that, but potentially we could establish a system that allows users to close their own thread in the PbF/PbEM category.
If an admin checks the category once a week or something they could go into the ACP, remove all savegames posted in closed threads from the server and then purge the threads afterwards. -
so i'm getting this error
Started a new game and it worked for the first player's post but not the second. I changed one of the emails, but wouldn't think that would matter since it successfully posted once already.
Anyway, I'll start a new topic/thread thingy and see what happens.

@beelee This is weird, the error indicates your username is not present although it should if the first turn worked.
-
@beelee Take a screenshot of the PBF setup screen. Its almost definitely an empty or incorrect forum username/password for the second user.
-
yea the second user is me as well but so was the earlier one. just made another junk mail for testing.
Seems weird it would post the first time though.
-
@beelee And you get that error when you click test post?
-
@redrum ahh... The email I quit using was the registered one for triplea beelee. Think that's it ? If so how do I set up a second email for same user beelee ?
-
@redrum I got it after the first player posted successfully. Then when i hit the save game I got the error after doing the second player's turn
-
@beelee wow Idk what happened but just tried again and now it works. Maybe I was hitting play local by mistake ? I don't think so. Anyway sorry to bother you.
just tried again and seems to work but I tried a bunch of times and it didn't either. Anyway : )
-
If so how do I set up a second email for same user beelee ?
@beelee Just FYI, since you're using Gmail... Gmail supports "on-the-fly" aliases for your account, so you don't have to create multiple accounts if you want to test MARTI. For example, if your primary email is beelee@gmail.com, you can use beelee+pbem1@gmail.com and beelee+pbem2@gmail.com as second and third emails for MARTI. Basically, just add "+whatever" to the end of your username to create a new alias.
Note that you are still required to register those aliases with MARTI before rolling any dice.

@ssoloff thanks ssoloff. You really kick ass here and at git too. : )
Still tryining to figure it out (PBFM). thought I had it for a minute : )
Back at it : )

Definitely something we should keep in mind when it comes to the next discussion about storage!
