LouisXIVXIV defeats Comorv (Axis +7). This game was played live in under 3 hours, of which I used most of that time. Ended in round 3, with Comorv frustrated by his run of luck in small combats. GG Comorv, and thanks for the rules enlightenment from before the game.

jmpsmsh (+9) defeats Blasherke after 10 rounds of PBEM. Whoever attacked in the first two rounds somehow had to face really bad dice, resulting in a lot of fighters going down on both sides early. The Allies took advantage by stacking up mass infantry in WE and later SE and thus forced Germany into defensive play. Russia, however, could never really recover and was slowly overrun by Japan.
Thanks Blasherke for an interesting and well played game.

polarole allies defeats epinikion axis+10 with axis surrendering after russia 15.
it was a pleasant fight as usual and very close for a long time. allies moved forces into weu and stacked there, those forces could be attacked succesfully and the battle went quite good for axis but german attrition was high. afterwards japs had a really unlucky round which turned out to be very decisive for the rest of the game.
nice game looking forward to play epinikion again...
          bye polarole

                  polarole allies defeats barca axis+9
allies had a good start with germans losing a fgt early. axis decided to play it superpassivly with germans as well as japan. so russia got an unopposed march into german territory and allies were able to stack eeu Rus 4 which decided the game.
in Ger6 axis surrendered with germans basicaly out of the game and japs not threatening anything.
                  thanks for playing

LouisXIVXIV (Axis +8 ) defeats Ingcameroni. Mainly a pbem game. We switched to live to speed things up near the deadline and it ended after about one round of live play. Neither of us wanted to play rushed and it probably led to a premature finish.

Let's see... here are some thoughts: This was a close game. Allies had income and TUV advantage all game. Germany opened with a bomber buy and allies were risk-taking with ships which led to a number of German air hits on boats. Overall this may have helped him more than hurt him as it turned out, but things were going to be tight for him if Japans air-force got into the European theater. Germany chose not to attack many times in Europe for lack of air, but USA was 5 transports behind. Allies opened with a KGF overall but maximally slowed Japan in Borneo, etc. Allies purchased an enormous number of fighters - this got them involved quickly with a lot of flexibility, and long term may have pinched Js naval moves. My counter-strategy narrative was to push land units into attack positions so that his total defensive power would be called upon and be insufficient. A lot of focus on Africa. I tried to be particularly efficient with Japan because Germany was pretty corked up and Japan had a weak start. It was a challenging game! I felt I had taken the upper hand on the board with a push into ukraine just before things fell off a cliff.

The game ended strangely and abruptly in round 10. Allies attempted a "technical maneuver" of dropping a transport into 34 to prevent an amphibious attack in the suez. However, in fact this did not prevent me from loading in india and attacking anyway. Having planned his moves around this idea Allies threw in the towel once persuaded of the rules and the disastrous consequences were apparent. Kind of a shoddy end to a very solid game. To his credit, Ingcameroni insisted on resigning instead of replaying prior moves based on a new understanding of the rules, even though that was offered. At the tourney level, you could argue you have to know the rules... [though many rules are controversial, I believe this situation was beyond contestation.] I'm pretty sure that I would not have been able to pick up units from Persia in the final scenario, but India worked...

                    Anyway, good game!

The last save I had was from just before his UK play. Basically he places a transport in 34 and all the other UK guys leave the suez area...

bayder (Axis) defeats polarole (Allies) in round 8 of a pbem game using standard ToC rules. Axis were the beneficiaries of early good luck, which helped Japan stack Per in round 4. Allies were successful in several risky attacks to get themselves back into contention, but in round 8 with Germany stacking Ukr and Japan stacking Per, the Allies decided to surrender.

As always, polarole was a fun, gracious, and challenging opponent. I look forward to playing him again, we have always had great games in the past. Cheers! bayder

LouisXIVXIV (Axis +9) defeats Barca. Resignation in round 11. This resignation regarded insufficient play time in the last few days before adjudication would have kicked in. How would YOU have adjudicated?

                              TOC14 LouisXIVXIV-Barca#2 USSR Round 11

This is a REAL LUCK game with TECH. USA and UK both have rockets.

The game was played exclusively pbem. Lots of weak dice in the first round. Japan rolled at less than 1/1000 in round 1, if I recall, just after UK rolled at 1/100. Overall, I think dice favored the allies.

The situation of the game now is one where Axis are shaping up to have an income advantage via territory that is nullified by allied rocket power, bringing things very close to even economically, perhaps ~3 IPC for allies in the short to medium term. TUV is 1182 allies -1056 axis.

Before I articulate who I think is winning and why, I'm curious to know what other people think.

i say the rockets make the difference. i cant see that axis can hold an income advantage with this tech on allies side. Isn`t it 5 rocket rolls per round (against germ and south europe twice plus one vs india)? How will axis compensate that?

@epinikion It's 6 -- average 7 ipc against germ via UK and 7 via USA. then avg 5 vs Japan via UK for a total average damage of 19/round. However, I anticipate a net axis income advantage of ~16/round. (India and FIC)

I believe Axis are 55-60% / 45-40% favored! This game is likely to be finished the next time Barca and I match up in a TOC (or earlier perhaps), so we shall see how it goes... It is a dice game so things can swing radically.

But it does call adjudication into question when everyone disagrees! Epi, Barca, Polarole say allies; Bayder and myself say Axis!

A heuristic I use to analyze the board is that in the big scheme of things: 1. Axis are defending ; 2. The world's land-mass favors Axis tactically; 3. when dealing with large force counts 3-way vs 2-way splitting plays bigger. In this game, both sides have tons of units on the board and more to come. If you let the game just keep stacking with a 0-10+ipc adv./round for allies -- then I believe Axis will win when both sides are optimally played for those 3 reasons. Zooming in on this game specifically, Allies still need more "infrastructure" and USA logistics in Europe have stopped. That undercuts the modest Allied TUV advantage a bit. Allies may undertake a delicate naval operation in Africa to bring USA out of Libya with UK and USA, but that will increase naval needs for UK, and it's tough with 18 axis figs on the board. Basically, in the short term Germ is well defended and if you run the clock long-term you face the heuristics above. That's why I believe Axis are favored to win the game.

One thing I would add is that in real luck games infantry are weaker attackers than they are in low luck games - that could throw off the intuition of low luck regulars. Anyway, those are my thoughts.

First, I did not enter an official position on this game, or I would have posted it here. In the lobby game when Lousis asked, I said upon a quick 2-minute look, that Axis were in a better position. I haven't played tech in years, so am not one to properly judge the effect of rockets. That said, it's clear the game is very close, and could go either way.

Second, this does not at all call into question the process of adjudication. Adjudication is part of the rules, and if you agree to play in the ToC, you're agreeing to the rules. Many sports (eg boxing, MMA) go to the judges when neither participant does the job enough to finish within the regulation time. If both sides want to play slowly and pile up infantry, then there's quite a good chance that adjudication will eventually happen.

What it does call into question is why Barca has for 2 ToC's resigned games against LouisXIVXIV that he has either been winning or very close. And both times after taking the full amount of time, slowing down the tournament for everyone else. If anything needs to be fixed, this does.
