How to play Play by Forum

I want to try Play by Forum, but I am not completely sure how it works.
Would someone mind explaining to me how it works?

@Greg-Anderson There are some videos but I don't know how much obsolete they are by now. I'm sure someone more into PBF will give you a link or some info soon (I've never played by forum, so far).
