Calling Graphic Designers! Need a 'Star' Graphic For Map Quality Rating
-
Need a graphic for something that looks like a rating review star. I'm picturing in my mind something of a 3d'ish looking star similar to Mario or something. The size of the graphic should be relatively small, same height as typical text. In the short term instead of listing map quality as 'best', we'll have 4 stars.
-
@lafayette when you say the same height as typical text that's not really a size can you give me a height and/or width in pixels? also would be helpful to know where this star would be displayed do you have a mockup of the screen sans stars?
-
@ubernaut The category text (right hand column) in the download maps screen is what will be replaced:
I don't know what the best height will be, I presume something slightly taller than the height of the map name text in the left hand column.
-
@lafayette why cant i view the downloads in this manner? mine has tabs for each class.
-
@ubernaut Are you using the latest 2.6?
-
@lafayette i ususally stick to stable releases
-
@lafayette how's this?
if you like here is the file:
-
@ubernaut Looks good. FWIW, my plan was to replace the category with the star rating.
-
Calling a map experimental seems nicer than showing 1 star for it. How about very good yet experimental maps? Like maps which are in experimental because of being hack-based.
-
@lafayette yeah i think i saw that post i tend to think the categories are better but i can see it both ways.
-
No matter what system of representation you use... at its core it is all arbitrary without some way for the community of players to evaluate a map and its playability. We currently have hugely imbalanced maps that are (for whatever reason) categorized as High Quality despite the many flaws in design.

@hepps I would love for the ratings to be sorted out and refined. There is an open need for Map Admins to go through and do curation of maps, volunteers needed: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/2707/map-curation-rating-maps-categories/1
