π― Sengoku - Nippon Warring States -Official Thread
-
Here is my map/scenario of Nippon's Sengoku, it has;
- fixed historical territories (with capitals) and random starting territories (attempts to simulate the shifting alliances of the minor clans with the major Clans).
- Clan Politics
- Uncross-able mountains
- Uncross-able Rocky Shores & Cliffs
- Sea battles, with terrain type of open seas and coastal
- Randomly appearing Wako/Pirates and Ikko Ikki rebels
For now Download from Google Drive v04
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lRdxT-OwNzOrL7pytvjlTgUJCNYZ1AFu/view?usp=sharingIn your downloads folder copy the zip file to the usual place, typically;
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\triplea\downloadedMapsTo play select the map Sengoku - Nippon Warring States
ps. You might have to unzip the file to make it work.
It is still a WiP, but please critique.

@thedog Pointing out that I know almost nothing of Japanese history, I'm curious how much historically correct this game is (as obviously the "Feudal Japan" games are not). Asking it an other way: is this game any good at re-enacting the events by which is inspired?
-
It is not historically correct, that would require fixed territories and lots more clans all with politics, for which this map/scenario has no politics.
It is intended to be a FFA game, with the best players taking the worst position clans.
To be more historically correct and to give a better feel it would need a detailed map with say four times the current territories with mountain passes, volcanoes, cliffs and rocky shore lines etc
@ebbe might be doing such a map next year.
-
@thedog I don't think it is a good idea deliberately to have increasingly disadvantaged powers in the assumption that increasingly better players will pick them. Opinions usually vary a lot on what a player is worth, so rarely anybody wants to play a side which he/she believes is disadvantaged whilst others do not recognize it as such.

I look forward to a more historical scenario, with fortresses, mountain passes and provinces with different values. As it is, I look the move into a more historical direction.

@thedog Nice ! Are you on Git ? We can load your map there.

@beelee @the dog So nice someone picks up the Sengoku era again.. it is a fascinating historical setting for a good old FFA bash indeed... there are few maps around but personally I thought it could be much more into a historical feeling, and graphics
@thedog I really like your approach; I was heading the same way:
-like mountains implementation of mountains which is I would say essentail in such mountaneous territory as Japan ...
(also added active volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunami's as elementary game changers )
and I also have Peasant and Religious/Sectarian revolts ( like Ikko Ikko) COOL!And I like the introduction of resources, you suggest gold mines...
I did a lot of research on Japan in this period on existing roads, mountain ranges, historical events, society setup, Clans setups & connections and Natural resources:
like for examle resources I found out that gold mines are very scarce in Japan.... but there are silver mines...
I made a map setup with ballanced resources/bonus territories
for all Clans, with possibilities of getting a bonus by getting a monopoy on them...
resources are for example: Salt, Silver mine, Jade, Silk production..
other bonus areas are: Shintoist and Buddihist religious centers... or main temples... sea trade cities, and some regions famous for Kitana sword making ...main theme for this society is honour,
like bravery in battle but also for owning a famous bonsai trea.. (really!) or hosting a skilled tea master or wood block printer at ones court...
my basic setting is with 12 Main playable Clans,
and some nonplayable minors at game start....anyway too much detail:
just wanne share I have lot of graphics, a detailed map and lot of info ready to be melted into a decent Sengoku map...
and am really happy that @thedog kickedoff this one and seems heading in the direction as I wanted too....I was planning to get started january 2022, as I am still busy with final edition on WW2 Oil & Snow....if you feel like a cooperation? let me know.... would be nice.... seems we follow some main targets....
I share some of the huge amount of graphics I allready made for this map: to get an idea.... 3 months work on getting Japanese style woodblockprint message -pictures, bonus cards, missions, and so on to be continued.... and @beelee for getting it on Github: definately not ask me... haha
to get and idea of some of the >100 some graphics I prepared allready:
-
and for the map: this is the first attempt, I am allready halfway a second one.... big changes will be cleaner bigger spaces for units... a better sea graphic.. and most labour intensive: I want each province to have a system of Clan banners that will swap to the current owner... and like in oil and snow: a status of the territories terrain, economical valua and so...
and seazones instead of the movement lines...anyway... can't wait for 2022 .... feel free to join...support..

It is difficult to balance gameplay when you are in the middle of an island as you get attacked from at least two sides, more if you include the sea. I am working on making the game play balance better for the Oda clan, probably by giving them more starting PU or maybe moving them up the turn order.

I dont like Git, maybe I will try again, but having spent 3 hours of my life and failing to load one of my maps, it is far easier to host on google drive, it just works.
I dont feel this map is balanced, so I will wait for feed back and maybe in a future revision.
But thanks for the offer of help!

@ebbe
I would love to help you with your map and scenarios. My main aid would be in;- the xml, although I'm still learning
- testing.
Please setup a new thread so we and others can discuss what will go in the first draft?
Or I will if you want me to? -
@thedog yes same for me for the Github part!
you allready started this thread, I'll definately join in... just share once in a while what your focus is and I sg=hare my humble opinion and info, ok?
as still have some stuff to finish coming time...I can send you my map full scale.... the impassable mountain ranges, mountain-passes and active volcanoes are accurate,
same for resources if you want to implement them as bonus like objective when reaching a monopoly on one of them.. -
As my Buddy's Dad Ron would say right before a shot of Sake "Banzai"

@thedog I am glad to see the Ikko Ikki being more of threat. It's time to show up those arrogant Samurai.
-
@rogercooper I noticed that the mod has never been posted to Github. Are you OK with my posting it or it has been superseded?
-
@rogercooper
Thanks for asking, it has been superseded, by the Shogun and Shogun Advanced. -
@thedog It was a good mod in its own right.
