OK - just added user LeeMorrison as an additional participant, and we now have 16 solid players. I will give additional time for people to sign-up during the holidays, as I don't suggest starting a tournament over the holiday season, as people will be naturally distracted, and it would be unfair to ask people to play at a tournament pace during such a period. Therefore, I'll aim to launch this baby in early January for sure.

In the interim, please ask additional people to join, and continue practicing against opponents in the Lobby, and prepare your best moves in the laboratory ! ๐Ÿ™‚

              Cheers, Deltium

My suggestion is that could be a game as Axis and a game as Allies, if results are even, then a free bid game to resolve final (It maybe will take longer TOC time but could be more balance and fair), It's just a suggestion!

Hi Raville, not a bad idea, but an easier (and very fun) way for me to implement this concept would be to create a double-elimination bracket, where you have to lose twice in order to be eliminated. Not sure if you have seen one of these before, but they are really fun! Effectively, you keep advancing in the winners bracket until you lose, and then you drop down to the corresponding spot in the losers bracket. Each person continues playing until they lose TWICE, so in every case, the winner of the losers bracket, plays the winner of the winners bracket, BUT again, you have to lose TWICE in order to be eliminated, so in that final round the winner of the Losers bracket has to beat the winner of the Winners bracket TWICE in a row to be champion ! I have seen it before, and it is a real shocker! I also like this variation because people still get to bid to play the Axis or Allies (versus being forced to play each side), so in theory, the bids always make it fair between two players, and their specific preferences. The amount bid (and bid placement ) in my opinion is a very interesting wrinkle in the game, as it demonstrates a player's ability to judge necessary units and the placement therein.

@deltium ya its what we had discussed similar to the old ladder rules
                      2 games each at 13
then if needed a bid off

Also, just received an email from Wasp, who has decided to play too. As we are over 16 now, we'll have a preliminary round.

There are also a few strong players from AAMC / Daak that have joined, namely LeeMorrison, Wasp, and Icelander. Along with the others in the tournament, these guys should make the tournament interesting!

I'm guessing the Rtl is supposed to be artillery.

Hi Delitium & Prastle, It sound good as you explain and think itโ€™s more interesting and fair to all when gaming both Axis & Allies and showing to be a real Champion of the game, additionally it allowed not to go down in moral after losing just one game and go out with no chance (as could be for bad lucky dice game, some minor errors or so on). TOC will be longer but, whatโ€™s the hurry?

@Raville - I hear you. I think that that we will indeed follow a double-elimination strategy, so that everyone is guaranteed at least two games. With a double-elimination strategy, and an associated winners and losers bracket, people will also be naturally matched with people in their own skill level. Additionally, the bidding process ensures that, if you really want to play either the Axis or the Allies, you can certainly adjust your bid to do so. Bidding, and the strategy behind it, is a VERY critical part of the game, and demonstrates one's skill and knowledge of what units are important in which critical territories at the beginning.

So, just to address your point about playing one game of each with the same opponent, the problem is this -- let's say that, for purposes of discussion, you are the #1 player in the tournament in terms of skill and experience, and I am #2. If we were to be randomly matched together in Round 1, then one of us would be eliminated in the first round. However, in the double-elimination version, one of us would be subsequently placed in the losers bracket, and one would continue in the winners bracket. Then, if we are both indeed strong players, then it is likely that we'll play again in the finals, but with plenty of games thereafter, which is more fair, and appropriate.

So, while I like the concept of being forced to play each side, you can always adjust your bid to do so, and this is a critical part of the game which I want to ensure that we keep in mind.

Lastly, while most of the people in this list play live, there are a few that I know that play PBEM only. As with other ToCs, PBEM is the default, unless both players agree to play live. Playing 2-3 games by PBEM could take 2-3 months for Round 1, forcing the tournament to last over a year with 5 rounds (given 16 players). I'd really like to launch one of these tournaments every quarter or at least every 6 months.

OK, hope this helps to understand my thought process. Please feel free to email me at 5683deltium@gmail.com if you would like to chat further.

                                    Cheers, Deltium
