I started playing the Diplomacy map and it's very odd. I've never played Diplomacy before but the fact that there don't seem to be sea zones (all "sea zones" seem to be treated as a land area), when naval warfare is such an important part of the game makes the game almost unplayable. Am I missing something?

I have not played the boardgame 'Diplomacy' myself for a long, long time - and I never tried the TripleA-map with the same name. But I remember that the boardgame has been quite popular - at least back in the 80's, maybe still today? I don't know.

However it is quite different from most of the other boardgame inspired TripleA-games. So I recommend that you try to find the rulebook of the original boardgame. After studying the rulebook you might be able to understand which aspects of the boardgame had been possible to transfer to the TripleA-engine - and which aspects needed workarounds.

        Maybe share your results here.

          Thank you for responding!

So the basics of Diplomacy go like this:

There are 3 types of territories, inland, coastal, and sea (not official names, but you get the idea).

Armies (ground units) can move on inland and coastal territories. Fleets (sea units) can move in sea territories, and, more importantly, coastal territories. This means armies and fleets can combat each other.

There are 3 other Diplomacy maps on TripleA, in addition to the one I'm asking about. In order for those to work (and they do work as well as possible), all sea zones seem to be coded as land zones/territories, while fleets are coded as land units. This allows the fleets to go to all the places they're allowed to in the rules (player-enforced rules are necessary to restrict the movements of both armies and fleets to follow the rules).

The problem, though, is that fleets are coded as sea units, yet the sea zones are still coded as land territories. This essentially makes it impossible for fleets to do anything.

I see that veqryn created this map - he was the main developer and the "brain" of TripleA in the days he was active, so I am quite sure he knew what he did and why.

Maybe someone more familiar with this map will join this discussion ...

I am quite sure that no one removed his account (except maybe he himself).
Are you sure he created an account when we switched to this forum (software) ?

As far as I remember the user accounts had not been transferred when the old tripleadev.nabble forum had been shut down.
