      Should 2.7 be released?

I think 2.7 is good. If nobody reports major problems in the next 24 hours, that gives me even more confidence for us to release it. Once 2.7 is released, we will then release every code update of TripleA from then on (we'll revisit that release strategy at some point, but that will be a forcing function so we can't sit on code updates for 5 years).

There is some tension though, I'm looking to leave on an extended summer break in the next few days (perhaps Sunday'ish or Monday). I won't be back to October. If we release and find a problem in like 7 days - @Myrd is perhaps the only person that can help @RoiEX or @frigoref might be able to as well

Thus the question, should we try and move 2.7 out the door, get it released? Or wait until I'm back and able to give extended support?

The only caveat I can really think of: once a 2.5 game is loaded into 2.7 and then saved, the save is no longer compatible with 2.5. Otherwise 2.5 is pretty much a seamless upgrade to 2.7.

Downgrading after everyone has updated their saves would perhaps be painful. At the same time, we really need to get the new versions moving forward.

I think "Waiting until October". Thing should not be rushed. Let's let 2.7 set for people to experiment with it.

There are still some minor issues, like what should happen to contested territories when only defending air units are left. But these are minor issues.

          Cheers...

I'm impulsive so I say go for it hehe

October's not too long to wait though so whatever works.

Nice job! And have fun on vacation

              Im for October.

1941 GCD v175 currently forces players to use TripleA 2.6.14790 as a minimum. There are a lot of views on its thread, so a lot players are on at least 2.6.14790 or higher.

It has been causing a few TripleA issues and they are being fixed, which is fab.

If 1941 GCD is played in the lobby Im sure it will cause problems as it requires a lot of RAM to play.

                Nice work Dan.

I say wait till October. Something goes amiss first week of August, one is looking at close to two months of downtime.

                That would be pretty brutal.

I'm just getting ready to start a forum game with 2.7. Our games last 1-2 months typically.

Should know if there are any issues by then. Or at least any common ones.

That sounds like a challenge! 😏
Lil more serious - I wonder what would happen. Arguably that is a good test case. The bots do get up to almost 200MB of dedicated RAM, per instance. They might have a hope to host the game.

Thanks @beelee and all for feedback & votes

I think I'll tend to agree with the majority here. Bad things happen when rushed. Perhaps the next couple months will serve as an extended testing period - a very good thing.

I reduced the number of 2.7 bot servers to two. That's a cost of $10/month and gives us 6 game instances in the meantime.

I'll spin up a 2.7 'megathread' thread & link it in the lobby. Make the testing a bit more official.
