Crazy Europe: House of Habsburg
-
Hello everyone! I've been off the forum for a long time, but I'm glad to be back and announce and finally release a new map.
It takes place on a highly detailed map of Europe I originally made for a WW1 game (still in progress, I need to study the new trains code a bit and update the XML).
Its a pretty simple map, the goal was to have some rarely seen nations fight in a few unusual areas. This time period (1600's) also doesn't get much representation from other maps.
The Habsburg Alliance includes Poland-Lithuania, Sweden, Venice, and of course the Habsburgs: including Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, and parts of Italy and France.
The other alliance is France, Russia, The Ottoman Empire, and Denmark. The map does not represent any one particular conflict, the alliances are simply drawn to create a dynamic conflict.
More coming this week. -
@crazyg Good to see that name again CG.

@crazyg That's an awesome era. I was thinking about this era and to even begin it in 15th or 16th century, for a future game. Basically late 1400s to early 1700s seems to have a lot of cool stuff happening. I would go with a more historical scenario though, but those are harder to pull off.
One of the most pivotal battles of Europe took place in 1683. The battle of Vienna, where the heavily favored Ottomans may have completely changed the course of western civilization if they were successful.
Imagine a muslim Europe.

Woohoo! Grazy German is back!
Sounds awesome. Maybe it could represent the time of our much loved and cool King of Denmark-norway Christian 4. (Reign 1588-1648)
He drank and f$#@ed a lot, so many Danes decent from him, including one of my friends He also made a lot of war! From wiki: "He is frequently remembered as one of the most popular, ambitious, and proactive Danish kings, having initiated many reforms and projects. Christian IV obtained for his kingdom a level of stability and wealth that was virtually unmatched elsewhere in Europe. He engaged Denmark in numerous wars, most notably the Thirty Years' War (1618–48), which devastated much of Germany, undermined the Danish economy, and cost Denmark some of its conquered territories." -
@CrazyG Lol, poor villagers will all have to serve their local lords. How does the castle block 5 enemy rolls?
-
@crazyg So were is the map? Can't see it in the downloads?
-
@CrazyG Welcome back! Guessing this is the same map as discussed in: http://tripleadev.1671093.n2.nabble.com/WW1-Map-Ideas-td7594034.html

Its historical-ish. The borders on based on a map I found on wikipedia. Sweden and Denmark are in a bloody war, and Sweden controls St. Petersburg. You have this massive land war between Russia and Poland-Lithuania. The Ottomans are sieging Budapest at the start, and France is positioned to start taking land from the Habsburgs. Venice pretty much had to be a Habsburg ally, so it didn't just die everygame
@General_Zod
You can set support attachments to give additional dice, rather than rolling a better dice. I just did that, a castle gives -1 dice to 5 enemy units@Hepps
Its not uploaded yet, I'm still cleaning up the XML and making sure no units are missing from the folders. Its the same map image that I intend for the WW1 scenario -
@crazyg Cool, I didn't know you can minus dice too.
Are those light blue coastal sz for designated amphibious landing zones or something else?
-
@general_zod
You can only access land via the light blue sea zones. The dark blue don't have a connection to any land territories. It makes defending coast against navy a lot more manageable -
@crazyg Love this idea of restricted land access!! More power to the people, less power to the SHIP. That's what I always say. 'M-O-O-N that spell more power to the people!'
cheers...

@crazyg said in Crazy Europe: House of Habsburg:
The Ottomans are sieging Budapest at the start
Historically the Ottomans took Pest and Buda (separate towns at the time) in 1541, and the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary was Pozsony (Pressburg, Bratislava) at the time period. Couldn't resist correcting this Also, ask me any time about Hungarian history

@crazyg Very excited to see this wonderful creation back in the news. I look forward to seeing it listed in the lobby games!
Just holler if you need a hand with anything. I'd be happy to help out with anything.
-
@crazyg Nice looking map. Are the gray neutral territories going to be capturable? Glad to help review/fix XML
-
@alkexr
The borders were drawn based on google image search results for roughly the year 1650. I'm open to adjusting them, I'd really appreciate helps with names too.@redrum
Yes you can invade neutrals. Ideally marching through Italy, Germany, or Romania to attack the enemy should be a strategic option. You can also take neutral lands in order to gain access to the villages.@All
XML is fine. I'm playing a local game now to find the last few issues, should be uploaded soon -
How can I open the error log? I think there is an error with the polygon file I've isolated, however the game just immediately crashes without showing the error message.
-
@crazyg if using a newer engine you have to turn it on in engine settings now
-
@prastle thanks
-
@crazyg np and they turned it off by default so silly little things would stop confusing reg players that it is an error. Power users like you can turn it on
