Why not using real flags in WWII scenarios?
-
I think they are overall more distinctive and looks better than military ensigns/roundels. Its my proposal for German flag though it is low quality but i could redraw it. I think its the closest thing to resemble WWII German flag.
Japan's one is questionable, i personally like the design of rising sun flag but the official Japanese flag of WWII can be used too.

@Schulz you can always make your own mods some "real" flags are against the rules as previously discussed.

Am I the only one that finds it a bit odd, that is perfectly acceptable to make games out of conflicts that killed millions of people. But a historic flag used in historical context is forbidden?
-
@Swampy we did not invent this standard it is illegal to use certain symbology in many countries, and for good reason.
-
Most countries allow historic flags for historic purposes. These include Germany, Austria, France, Poland, Israel, USA, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland... etc. etc.

Armies did not march under political flags. It's not historic to have that. I do not think the flag in the OP quite looks like the wermacht flag (I'll leave it to the reader to do their own wikipedia search). Though, FWIW it does resemble German WWI insignia and symbols.
We do allow the CSA battle flag for US Civil War maps. As a blanket policy TripleA does not allow swastika's nor any other hate symbol to be used even in a historical context without explicit permission.
There are several reasons for this policy, it's not up for debate.
