Need to get a new machine. Currently on Lenovo ThinkPad 560. Have had trouble with it from day one.

Acer Nitro seems as if it might be a good option. I'm not familiar with them though.

Can't go real big on cost either, unfortunately.

I almost never use it as a laptop. Have it hooked up to a larger monitor.

Will be using a linux OS.

      Any suggestions are appreciated. 🙂

Have you considered a non-laptop like
        Small Form Factor PC
Give it a search, you can get Dell or HP and/or refurbished at less than $250

Dell XPS-13 is a pretty sweet / lightweight laptop. Dell attempts to have good linux support for that model. In theory they test it with linux drivers. Having had one a few years ago - it did work well and I really liked that it was very portable.

I now have an XPS-14 (slightly larger) and the webcam does not work due to driver issues. I also had to install the Linux "mainline" kernel to get everything else to work (headphone jack was not working as well).

I've got a slightly dated (about 7 year old) tower that I'd be happy to send you.

I almost never use it as a laptop. Have it hooked up to a larger monitor.

Building a tower is a pretty good option. Though getting things at a discount would require a good bit of labor to find the parts on places like ebay/FB marketplace etc..

Sweet ! Thanks for the replies. I think I'll give the XPS a try. I had a dell before this lenovo and it worked great for about 15 years.

Even though I'll rarely use it as a laptop, it'll still be nice to have that versatility.

            Thanks again 🙂
