CrazyG's Big World War One

Really liking what is going on here.
Want to make a shout out to @Frostion for really awesome looking unit graphics.
Couple suggestions though...
The ammunition for the Heavy Artillery seems really out of place. Not sure how many cannon balls were used during WWI.
Perhaps a stack of shells might create a more authentic feeling.
The other one is the entrenchment... it looks like a stack of bags rather than any kind of defensive construction.
Otherwise, the rest are stunning.

@Hepps If @CrazyG likes your shells, you should probably make and post a set of them in all the coloured nuances of the players, so that he can easily implement them. I know of a feature in Photoshop that can recolor an image in a color range picked directly from another chosen image. I can't remember the exact feature name or menu location in PS, but you can probably find it.
I am pretty low on free time at the moment. Otherwise I would just do it instead of asking. I am only online on the forum via my phone when to and from work by train
-
@Frostion Yup... was just waiting on the go ahead. I can do the recolouring in a moment once the thumbs up is given.
-
Those shells look great to me
-
Under the current rules, I would rather leave the shells monocolour, as I think it is better not giving colours if they are not needed (typical example, the factory is usually not coloured, as it belongs to the territory owner). However, as I said, with trains and with a map like this I would rather have shells as a unit you produce, move to the frontlines with trains, and somehow use depending on artillery.
Beside of course production logistic, the main function of trains was to supply the units at the frontline, main item being artillery shells. From pre-industrial warfare, the train revolution was more about keeping millions of men resupplied at a static frontline, than moving the armies themselves.

I'm not sure Jesus would approve of giving ammunition as a Christmas gift... but I'm willing to run the risk since I already have reservations in a warmer climate. Merry Christmas!
-
@Hepps Which warmer climate? Mexico with all the nice churches?
-
@prastle Warmer. It's more like a Sun Wing Adventure package with no return flight and all meals are served on a pitch fork.
-
Also, just because you have been such a good little warmonger this year... Triple A Santa has even put the Kiel Canal decoration in your stocking!
-
@Hepps Heh heh Express elevator for me : )
-
So just in case you are not of the christian faith... here is a non-denominational gift of no seasonal significance...
-
@Hepps gill nets on both sides. Tough duty if you're a salmon : )
-
@beelee Ottomans didn't want their salmon mixing with the other heathen fish.

@Hepps rofl

@CrazyG Here is a PU concept...
-
@Hepps
I find that somewhat hard to read.Currently there is an issue of territories being relatively crowded, so I would prefer a PU marker that poppped less. In fact, I would happily take the faded numbers you have in that canal picture.

@CrazyG Here is some concept work...
-
Big Changes pushed today.
-
Heavy artillery, entrenchments and battlecruisers removed (temporarily).
These were causing some big balance problems, I want to get the rest of the map in a good position, then I will re-add these units. -
Gas's function has been reworked. It now kills 1 in every 10 infantry/cavalry in a territory.
Speeds up combat. -
Artillery are now isInfrastructure, and die if not protected by infantry or cavalry.
Helps speed up combat -
Recon-Planes reworked.
Give +2 attack or defense to all allied artillery. Speeds up combat
Now air battle before land combat. Makes fighting for air superiority more interesting.
Can intercept bombing airships. They are currently the only anti-air weapon.
Can escort bombing raids. -
Turn order changed to save Italy.
Italy now goes after France, but skips the first turn. -
Serbia starting position changed
Serbia is overall weaker and can't take Bulgaria's factory easily, but has a more interesting turn 1. -
Poland repositioned
Germany now begins closer to the Warsaw factory, so it can be captured more easily. -
Germany has more units overall
I felt that Germany was rather weak. -
Suez canal now gives the UK +30 income for controlling it.
There is now a reason to fight for Egypt. -
Ottoman Empire has fewer trains and units.
-
Relief tiles and damaged unit images updated

@CrazyG In regards to PU markers, I would recommend using small and subtle graphics. Something or the same as in the ancient / BC map maybe? I think it would fit the current territory filling and map style well.
I have not played this map yet, but I think the changes seem to be good calls. I am glad you implemented recon planes as ground support units. Now I hope the normal fighter can get the role of protector and attacker of recon planes, and in battle when that role is mission complete, then the fighters could maybe join in on the normal attack. I think it would be nice if the fighter could be balanced and priced to fill out this role

@CrazyG Here is a concept draft of what you asked for...
Just let me know.
