I think it could be something to do with engine which doesn't allow units to have pure numbers. Maybe I could open the game by slighly changing the dates like 1941-winter.
-
@Schulz i just uninstalled and reinstalled and it worked for me. It should be WW2 Oil and Snow 1st Edition under experimental
-
@schulz yea thats what I thought. Hes got up to 1948 so have to do something a,b,c,d etc... are you on prerelease ?
-
@beelee I am using outdated version because I m unable to open games beyond 2.2.
Edit: The engine didn't even allow combination of numbers and letters, i changed numbers with letters and it solved the issue.
After that the engine didn't allow some names like US territory. So I also changed them as US_territory
Then I got "Attribute value "garrisonMex" of type ID must be unique within the document error. Probably they are all related with the outdated version. I would like to check it if i will be able to open maps in 2.6.
-
@schulz yea that's what i suspected was all numbers being the problem. This is the 2.5 stable were using. I haven't actually encountered this. I just clicked through a round without doing anything tho just to see if it worked and check out the cool music and pop ups

hmm...I think unique means there's two or more of something and should only be one
-
@beelee yea i guess I could DL latest and see what happens but just trying to make sure it rocks on the stable right now. Don't wanna blow mind with too much information lol It's pretty fried as is
-
I use Windows 7. I could even try to solve the 3.rd error message but couldn't even understand the issue.
-
@schulz right on can you get it to run ? I think they quit updating windows 7 last year or something. That might be part of it
-
@ebbe fixed an error where "Entrechment_hit" should be "entrenchment_hit" for the Americans. Fixed the Italian artillery and entrenchment_hit that started with upper case as well. The other countries seem ok. Also went through notifications and fixed some spelling.
I got the Hard AI doing battle right now. I'll probably let it roll till turn 10 or 12. If no errors, I'll send a PR to git. Before you merge it though, I'll post how you can see and check the changes, because every time you merge something to the triplea-maps, it'll auto update the map when people DL it, whether you update the yaml or not.
It's still early in the process, so no biggie. We just want to get everyone on the same page.
I guess I'll let the machine beat up on itself for another hour or so. Kind of a bloodbath so far lol.
Oh yea, you might consider adding the Unit Help under the Help button to the Game Notes. I'd do all the National Objectives too. This is a fairly complex game and the more info you can make easily available, the better imo.
One thing that would be sweet, is some sort of quick reference chart for fuel consumption. Motorized, Air and Naval or w/e uses fuel. It'd be cool if triplea did it for one. E.g. One has 10 tanks, 5 mechs, 3 Destroyers and 2 Fighters, you need x amount of fuel for full movement. I guess that'd be more of some sort of feature request : )
My small cranium just has trouble trying to do all the math before I actually do anything lol. I guess the more one plays, the easier it gets and that's probably part of the attraction too. I know @BlackElk liked playing Frostion's Iron War and redrum and others like TWW.
At any rate, there's not a lot of people who play the more complex maps, so don't get discouraged if you don't get a lot of feedback. You did some good work here. After this next update, I'll post over at A&A.org for you. Never know, somebody may check it out.
-
Well bummer, we got another error. Made it to RD 5 though It doesn't freeze the game and you can keep playing but I'm not really sure what it is. I still don't know how to post the entire debug/console thingy but here's the first part:
I don't want to post it to git right away as my guess is some sort of xml error. @wc_sumpton you have any idea ?
At any rate, I'm gonna let the War continue
-
Got another one but it doesn't crash game. I checked for the units and there in the folder. Might be something to do with a trigger that removes them ?
-
@beelee Hmmmm : weird: I cannot see anything unappropriate in free french or Belgian infantry unit attachment in the game.xml that could cause trouble; neither is there any trigger involving the latter...
and the no railroad trigger for Trans-Jordan is how it should work;
never had one of these 2 errors in last months testing... (windows though) -
@beelee Those should not be related to the XML. Most XML issues would be present at startup, beyond that - it's mostly the game engine that would be at fault.
-
@ebbe Could you attach r1 load of the game?

Hej Schulz, I am not sure I understand what you mean with "r1 load? "
-
@ebbe I just downloaded the latest pre-release and wanted to open a saved game of 2.5 (or 2.6) to test if it will work.
It means just opening the game, saving and attaching the load.

Okej, managed to adapt the hills relief; personally I think better than the previous one, but still not completely satisfied..... anyway, back to coding; this is acceptable in the mean while....
