2.6 Release Getting Close - Need Volunteers to Help Beta Test 2.6

2.6 is now a beta version. The only thing known not to work are map skins. So it is pretty close. We could use volunteers to download the latest and really try to break it and find any bugs.

@lafayette Please change "Movement/Selection Help" to "User Help" and add the information that the battle-calculator (or, more correctly, "battle-simulator") exists and what the Ctrl+B, Ctrl+A and Ctrl+D commands are for.
Also, it would be good if the first time you start a game the program opens Help/User Help for you.Example:

@cernel Have to think about it, not for 2.6 though. There is a broader conversation to be had of how to manage the tutorial experience and make the controls available in TripleA more obvious.

I have an odd issue that the screen windows sometimes get messed up, with windows being duplicated or out of alignment. If I save the game and exit, everything works.

That is odd. I don't think anything in 2.6 would cause that, can you confirm if that also happened in 2.5? If you're willing, share some screenshots in a github issue and we might be able to find out more.

@lafayette I always play 2.6. It started when I got a newer, faster computer. Next time it happens I will send a screenshot.

I have found out that this release fixes the issues with not being able to post to axisandallies.org. What is needed to get a stable release after so long of this not working?

Probably not enough memory in the heap space. You can try increasing in the Triplea.vmoptions file

@simon33 I am reluctant to move to 2.6 after an earlier version of 2.6 wiped out all my downloaded files. Has the problem of being unable to download been resolved?
I have had the issue with messed up windows in another Java-based program, so I suspect the issue is a Java issue. I will try 2.6 again once I have uploaded all the mods I have.

So 10 months ago it was thought to be getting close but still not there now? Are the developers not working on it any more? I hope that isn't the case.

yea idky a patch wasn't put in for redrums fix. Not enough bandwith if i remember right.Not a lot going on dev wise these days

For the Devs, its summer, good weather and real life, AFAIK they are all in the northern hemisphere, they will back in the autumn.Earlier this year the code changes for 2.6 were coming in daily and it was hard to keep up
Off the cuff, 2.6 runs faster, Hard AI is faster/better, frontend for multi-player has improved. (Sorry Devs if I missed your biggies)

The current 2.6 seems to be pretty solid for a lot of common play-cases. I'm not aware of anyone going through a lot of the corner cases yet. For example, unit ownership transfer rules, the variety of global rules. There's a good set of lesser functionality in the game, the variety of menus that I'm not sure have yet all been exhaustively tested either (so, all those unsexy things perhaps need testing).
I tried to organise some more coordinated QA efforts, like tracking what has been and what needs to be tested in a spreadsheet.. But I don't have the time/capability to continue that and that effort was not well maintained. That is to say we could use a volunteer to tally what works and what doesn't in 2.6 (beyond any known issues).

@lafayette I hope this will happen soon. It feels like it's never going to happen...
As for testing, I quite often ask if anyone wants to play 270BC Wars with the prerelease, but nobody takes the offer. I played it a few turns myself in the new lobby and didn't find additional problems.
Are there things that can be cut out actually to release 2.6 sooner?
