Axis and Allies: 1914
-
Quick question:
Why isn't this module a downloadable TripleA map? I had to seek out and find this from other sources. It is specifically, Larry Harris's "Axis and Allies: 1914". Anyone know why its not readily available?
-
@the_good_captain
we had better 1914 maps before that one i guess nobody saw a need for a similar mapedit: sorry misread your post, all maps need to be downloaded separately
-
@ubernaut I edited the question to hopefully make what I'm asking less confusing.
-
here is the exact file I'm talking about: https://www.mediafire.com/file/6l8ni5rzkruakro/world_war_i_1914.zip/file
axisandallies.org and the axis and allies facebook pages have basically accepted that "there is no TripleA for 1914". I got this from a friend and a bunch of us axis and allies players were shocked it existed
-
@the_good_captain where did you find that? i didn't even know we had that one always wanted to try it out even tho i knew ours were better
-
@ubernaut the guy I got it from says he doesn't remember where he got it from.
There are a lot of us over at the Axis and Allies .org website that appreciate AnA games aligning with out of box rules. This is the version that aligns with oob rules and I'm going to go ahead and publish this over on that forum.
On a side note, I have a youtube channel with 400+ axis and allies players and am interested in pushing TripleA updates and announcements for you. Is there anyone I can talk to about that?
-
@the_good_captain yeah? maybe i'm a subscriber already yeah i'm sure we can chat here or feel free to DM as well
the guy I got it from says he doesn't remember where he got it from.
funny i definitely recognize the authors although haven't seen them around these parts lately

@ubernaut Ill switch to PM

It's in the TripleA repository but not in download list.
The TripleA repository:
https://github.com/triplea-mapsThe map:
https://github.com/triplea-maps/world_war_i_1914/archive/master.zip
Not sure what you mean by "pushing TripleA updates and announcements". By what means? Are you aware of the existence of
https://www.facebook.com/TripleAwargame/
?It would be good to ask @Zjelcop if he is still actively managing such things or wish to have a partner or substitute (as I'm not seeing news since more than one year and a half).
You likely want to talk about such things with @LaFayette.

IMHO the game notes explain why this module is an approach to reflect the board game. The TripleA engine AFAIK still does not support the WWI_1914 OOB game mechanics.

I strongly disagree. The designer was being way too hard on himself. I’m currently in a play-by-forum game with the fellow who passed it off to me.
We have found a single, easily editable error in gameplay compared to out of box (contested territories always fight - our fix is if the current player doesn’t wish to fight a contested space, we delete all our units in that space before combat, then edit them back in after the combat phase)
-
@Panther the designer even got the neutrals down perfectly. IMO, this is one of the more impressive canon AnA games (not)* available on TripleA.
*not available for easy download as a layperson
-
Don't misunderstand me, I agree this is a playable map.
It's just that the edits need to compensate for engine insuffencies in some cases - and in definitely more cases than in most vX-WWII-games.
I think it is currently not in the "Download Maps"-list simply because it has not been brought to a broader attention (at least I can't remember) and only a few have noticed it - and no one ever added it to any download-index.
-
@The_Good_Captain you might ask @RogerCooper if he has it. He updates a lot of maps to triplea
-
@beelee heya BeeLee - Just to clarify, I have the module, I’m more or less asking on behalf of at least half a dozen axisandallies.org forum members, why it has to be “boot legged”. It’s not a readily available map through the normal mechanisms of installing a module through TripleA.
-
@the_good_captain yea I was thinking if Roger has it, he'll probably upload it to triplea at some point. He has more maps than anyone I know and has uploaded more maps/mods as well
-
@beelee I will prioritize uploading Axis and Allies: 1914 after I finish some current projects.
I am not too concerned that the board game is not perfectly replicated in TripleA, My standard is a port good enough to be interesting and playable by the AI. I have ported D-Day, Zombies and the original Nova Games edition. Guadacanal & Bulge I have concluded will not really work as games in TripleA.
Conquest of Nerath anyone?
-
If I can be a mouthpiece for the Axis and Allies .org website and FB pages - by polling, 1914 appears to be the third most sought after playing experience (of the canon).
@RogerCooper I extend a heartfelt "thank you" on behalf of the same community if/when you're able to make 1914 available (and a personal thank you that I won't have to rely on posts/emails with instructions how to load it into TripleA going forward, haha).
-
@ubernaut @beelee as a thank you and after speaking with several of you, I'm asking my audience if anyone would like to help TripleA out as a developer. Special thanks to @ubernaut

@the_good_captain thanks for the shout out
