Urgent communication needed

I would kindly ask you to go to
https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/
and inform the big PBF-community about the sudden and totally unexpected shut-down and your plans.

This will affect all ongoing League games and other forum-games as well as (planned) tournaments.

On this forum PBF is still broken ( https://github.com/triplea-game/triplea/issues/14440 ) but the other forum relies on an ongoing working dice-server.

Likely from the current (old) Marti server, I assume?
As @lafayette stated the new one is not yet "ready"...

Were there any issues registering with the new server? Seems that is the outstanding point of communication that would need to happen (along with, upgrade now!)

#1 the old server is already kaput?
#2 the fix is to update to current client and re-register with the new marti server?

Please focus on ensuring that a few players that have never installed 2.7 before, do so. I'm concerned about that group, the people that have done the most testing have had 2.6 or 2.7 installed for some time, I'm concerned about the latest/fresh installs and there being a major blow up there. I am infinitely less concerned about the dice server right now than I am about the primary upgrade path.

I can confirm that registering, confirming and testmail work with
2026-06.16.15640!

FWIW, the overall message is:

update to 2.7 now
re-register for dice rolls @ dice.triplea-game.org
the dice emails are almost certainly going to go into spam (until that is fixed)

I'm most concerned at the moment about the herd migrating to 2.7 and there then being a big problem. The shut down of 2.5 bots and dice server will likely happen in pretty quick succession.

@panther the version available from the website is the one to use, it's a "forever latest", ever code merge will be rebuilt and then immediately available for download.

@ubernaut no hard date other than upgrade now... having everyone upgrade all at once is a recipe for utter disaster.. so I'm nervous about sending the communication out just yet. Ideally this would be way more gradual, and someone who had yet to upgrade at all could confirm that everything went smoothly

@LaFayette ok i get that we want people upgrading right away and dont wan’t to distract but if i put a message out there i need to be able to field questions about it as well.

even if we can put something vague like "we expect to take down the 2.5 compatible servers within the next 2 days/week/whatever" it wud be better then me just saying "upgrade right away we dont know when we are turning off the existing servers but we’ll do it when it feels right so upgrade right away.” or some such.

the message will need to propagate bit i reckon.

I'd like to be sure that we have a few people on 2.7 safely. Once that is done, I'll toggle the in-game messaging to upgrade and would turn off the 2.5 dice server. Could be hours away from it really. If we don't get those few people in safely and something is a matter.. then it might be days/weeks until we get back to trying to migrate.

So far a few hiccups, but nothing too bad. Some players are having to re-install maps.

@LaFayette ok well a few hours to a few weeks is not a great message to putting out there tbh. it also sounds you dont currently actually even want a flood of updates.

i guess there is no ability send update notifications in the pre 2.6 clients so i suppose everyone will just find out when it happens to them.

@LaFayette i guess just notify me/us when you shut them off then and i will post about that after it happens still think we should have some overlap and still willing to pay for an extra month if it helps smooth things over.

The willingness to pay is appreciated, but it's more if we carry the old dice server forward for another month, then why not another 3 months? When does it end?

A) we need the new server vetted out.
B) Really, we need that money going to the main servers. I need to check in with Prastle, but I think we're broke right now.

The old dice server is $25/month only because it's so old, Linode has been raising the price on us because of it. Since we can't migrate the code off, we've been stuck. It is looking pretty positive so far that 2026-06 is going to last.

@LaFayette i hear you about where do you draw the line but any amount of warning is better than none imo. that’s why i’m suggesting something vague like “we expect to shut down the old servers within the next 2 weeks" or something then even if we do it earlier it not like we promised 2 weeks.

Either the old dice server will be shut down like tomorrow, or it'll be a month from now. I'm guessing will be tomorrow at this rate.
